  • Duplication of send instrumentation in Firefox
     OP - April 16, 2010, 11:12 PM

Hiya, anybody else have this problem?

I get two sets of instrumentation when going to post message screen.

Each set consists of all the elements from the To: box to the "Tested in..." text. The buttons for sending and previewing are shown only once though, below the first set.

The upper set receives the text but does not allow me to focus. The bottom set allows me to focus and type, but the text shows up in the top set.

Unfortunately, the lower text area, where no text ends up, seems to be the one checked at submit, 'cause if I type a message "through" the lower area, and can see it in the upper area, I still get "body empty" when I try to submit.

I am writing this text in notepad and copying it in to the upper text area. That is the only way forward right now.

Basically, the problem is that the instrumentation is doubled. These other things would be expected from a JS-controlled page with doubled form elements.

    My facts:

    Windows XP
    Firefox3.0.17

Have a number of add-ons also, notably adblocker and noscript. But neither are blocking anything right now.

    Screenshot?

You could try creating a new firefox profile, this lets you view a page without all your add-ons (without losing them). See if it shows properly, if it does then there could be a problems with one of the add-ons.

You could just temporarily disable any add-ons you wanted to check without worrying about Facebook.

Oh and why are you still running FF3 anyway? That's way out of date and IIRC is no longer getting security patches. Have you tried 3.6?

ETA: I'll have to reinstall 3.0 as I removed it some time back. Will test with it later today.

Easier to just switch the add-on off if you want to check it. Tongue

The upgrade seems to have fixed it. Thanks Oz, I had missed the new version.

And now the image popped up also. Didn't show up in the first post...

Ok I don't know why yours was buggy. I've just downloaded and set up FF3.0.19 with the ColorZilla, Web Developer, MeasureIt, HTML Validator, Java quick Starter, Microsoft .NET Framework and Personas plug-ins and the reply form is working just like it should. I suspect the problem was due to one of your old add-ons.

And you didn't just miss one version. You missed 3.5 as well.  grin12  They stopped development on the 3.0 series sometime last century.

ETA: I posted this on 3.0.19.
