    Personally I totally hate IRC. A chatroom of some sort would be kinda cool but I would definitely prefer something other than IRC.

    I just think IRC is a totally poxy format. I'd much prefer to just use MSN or Trillian compared to IRC.

    To be perfectly honest, I can't think of anything a chatroom can do that the forum shoutbox or IM can't do.

    It isn't annoying if you are using the forum anyway, because it refreshes at every page load.

    Anyway running an IRC channel is a total PITA even if you do like the format, and the format is a PITA for a lot of people because it's based on command line thinking rather than GUI thinking. Using a GUI is a lot more intuitive for most people. Any of the common IM's offer a better interface and similar performance. If you're worried about being traced through IM just make a disposable account. People do that all the time with emails for registering on websites. You can be traced through IRC every bit as easily as you can be traced through IM. IRC does not provide absolute privacy. Anyone who thinks it does is fooling themselves.

    Anyway I can look into an AJAX shoutbox that has auto refresh. I would love to use Flashchat but it chews bandwidth like you wouldn't believe. I'd be worried about it rapidly becoming untenable.

    I would love to be in a chatroom that doesn't require us to refresh every time, doesn't have to be IRC, I'm no expert in this area though

    They have it on some other forum, it seems to be pretty popular for people who like to talk, or use chat rooms.

    People not like me lol because I have only used it once.  I prefer forums.

    On the other forum I use, there is a link to it, and something about downloading it to your pc, so that you can access it.

    its a dalnet channel named el7ad, you are welcomed to join
