    Hi.

    I think you're all acquainted me now, I've been posting here for the past couple of days. But, for anyone who's interested, I'll tell you a little about myself.

    I'm presently a university student living in Scotland, studying English/linguistics. I'm interested in religion, politics, philosophy and like. You know, the kinds of subjects that normal people avoid like the plague.

    I'm an atheist. I never was a Muslim, but I find Islam to be a particularly interesting religion to study, especially with all the things that are going on with it these days.

    I find that the discussions that go on in this forum are often very interesting and pertinent too and so, I decided to join!

    That's the short version. If you've got any questions, just let me know. Smiley

    Welcome to the forum. Is there anything about Islam is particular that interests you? Is it the practical implications or the theology and belief system itself?

    Well, various things really. It's interesting in each of its capacities as a social system, philosophy, way of life, and a religious faith. I was motivated to learn more about it in recent years, what with all the different things people say about Islam. You can't trust what either Muslims or non-Muslims say about it, you have to find out for yourself.

    At the same time, Muslims make all kinds of claims about the divine origin of the Qur'an, and I wanted to find out if really was inerrant and all that, like they say it is. Surprise, surprise, I found out that evidence was very much stacked against that idea, and I can hardly say that I was disappointed, what with the god of the Qur'an being as profoundly unpleasant as he is.

    Glasgow, thats where that horrific murder of the 15 year old boy took place.  He was just some random kid that was picked up of the street by a group of 3 asian muslim lads, in search of a white boy to murder. 

    After driving from Glasgow to Edinburgh for hours searching for a place to murder him and after stabbing him repeatedly in the car, they eventually set him alight.

    They then flea to pakistan, where an extradition order took place to try them in the UK.

    One of the most depressing news stories I ever came across in the UK, and still bothers me till today.

    Well, I'm glad to say that we don't get those kind of things happening every day.

    It's a nice city to live in for the most part as long as you stay out of the east end.... and the south, and any place in the west beyond Anniesland.... and the less said about the north, the better.

    Really though, there isn't much of a problem with hate-crimes and that sort of thing. There are parts of the city that have a high Asian population, but there's rarely any serious problems there.

    I've been given shit by people plenty of times, but never once by someone who's foreign or of Asian extraction.

    Did you remember that murder in my post above?  I think at the time it caused quite an international stir, because it was the first time an extradition had taken place between Pakistan & UK

    I remember it Islame, the MP from Glasgow who was of Pakistani origin had to go to Pakistan to hunt the murderers down who were hiding in villages and get them arreseted and extradited.

    Ooooh, yeah, I remember it now. Muhammad Sarwar was the MP's name, I think. He actually received death threats from some people in the Asian community after he did that.

    A fair bit I guess. I read the tafasir, hadith and Qur'an and so forth.  I also learn some Arabic so I don't have to rely too heavily on the translations, and I'd like to become fluent in it.

    Relative to other religions I read about Islam quite a bit more.
