Well Zaid Hamid is Running, News says "Controversial’ speech leads to clash in university" The Speaker is Zaid Hamid
    http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/the-newspaper/national/controversial-speech-leads-to-clash-in-university-730

    Quote
PESHAWAR, March 6: Speech of a television anchor led to severe firing in the air with automatic weapons and protest demonstration on the premises of the Islamia College University here on Saturday.

At least 12 students were taken into custody by police from campus of the Peshawar University when they tried to create disturbance in a programme where an anchor of a private television channel Zaid Hamid was busy speaking to the students, police and students said.

The students also staged a protest demonstration and tried to chase the speaker but police controlled the situation by arresting the leading protesters. It was learnt that some students had also opened fire in the air but police did not confirm it.

An official of the campus police station told Dawn that a group of students had tried to beat the speaker Zaid Hamid but the personnel took timely action and overcame the situation.

The police source said the programme had been arranged despite the police reports about the possible reaction but the university administration did not pay attention to the reports of security agencies and permitted the programme.

However, a student Tariq Afghan of Pakhtun Students Federation told this correspondent that the students had pelted stones at the car of the TV anchor and chanted slogans against him.

The workers of Islamia College, another source said, had also shouted slogans against Zaid Hamid and condemned the university administration for giving permission to hold the programme. The IJT workers also displayed posters against the speaker.

“The students also chanted slogans against NWFP governor and university administration for what they described as an attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the campus through controversial speakers,” the source said.

The Amn Tehrik leaders including Idress Kamal, managed to get the students released and held a demonstration against such speakers.

Mr Kamal told Dawn the Amn Tehrik leaders would hold a press conference on Monday against Zaid Hamid and those who had permitted him to speak in the university.

“We have already suffered a lot due to the suicide bombers and militants and do not want those promoting the extremists,” he said.

I wonder whom he will blame now??

Imran Khan vows to 'flog big crooks' if elected to power

    Quote
Lahore, Mar. 8 (ANI): Former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan has vowed to "flog big crooks" himself, "if elected to power." The News quoted the Tehreek-e-Insaf chief as saying that while people have watched the flogging of small time thieves on TV, "I myself would flog the big crooks when elected to power".

Addressing an election rally in NA-123 constituency of Lahore, Khan alleged that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has started playing politics with Prime Minister Gilani on his side. He said that Sharif, in the past, used to play cricket with the help of umpire on his side, and "now he is doing the politics with the umpire on his side."

Khan added that the purpose of his struggle was not merely to change faces of politicians, but also to transform the system.

Whenever there has been fight of interests and ideology the latter has always won, he pointed out. (ANI)

JI chief  says, He does not oppose talks with India

    Quote
LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) does not oppose talks with India, but the government should realise that New Delhi is adopting dialogue only as a delaying tactic, JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan said on Sunday.

Addressing the concluding session of a two-day meeting of JI office bearers at Mansoora, Hasan said the country has fallen hostage to the US and the government was blindly following the US policy imposed on it. He said the government agencies were spreading disinformation in regard to the US war and its nefarious designs, but the JI was there to counter the situation and guide the masses. He said the continuous military operations in Balochistan had worsened the situation and some people had even started talking about secession.

He said US and NATO forces had been defeated in Afghanistan and were punishing Pakistan and the Pakhtuns for that.
Hassan said the JI fully supported the jihad being waged by Hamas, Hezbullah, Hizbul Mujahideen, and the Afghan Taliban but it was not in favour of violent revolution in Pakistan where opportunities for a constitutional change were available. staff report

well that Question/answer video is about Zaid Hamid's past., Between  ~ 1987 - 92 Mr. Zaid Hamid used to follow a senior guy Yousuf Ali watch these  video

Now to know who was Yousuf Ali  you got to read wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Yusuf_Ali

    Quote
Muhemmed Yusuf Ali, dubbed Yusuf Kazzab (کذاب' Kazzab means Great Liar) by a Pakistani lower court judge in an in camera trial was a Pakistani citizen who was murdered by a man named Tariq in 2002 while at the Kot Lakpat jail in Lahore, Pakistan. Tariq was on death row for committing murder and was reported to be a member of Sipah-e-Sahaba.

Muhemmed Yusuf Ali was charged of claiming Prophethood. A case was registered against him by the Anjuman-e Tahaffuz-e Khatim-e Nabuwwat on 29th March 1997, a politically active Pakistani religious organization. He was accused of adultery, fraud, claiming prophet-hood, and blasphemy against Islam. He clarified his position through paid advertisements in the newspapers[citation needed]. Based on the case, he was immediately detained.

    Death

After his bail was rescinded, Mr. Ali was taken back to jail. In an unscheduled change of quarters on June 10, 2002, he was taken to walk through a courtyard where his would be attacker--Tariq, another death row inmate--was already present. Somehow Tariq had in his possession a .35 caliber revolver. He shot Mr. Ali at point blank range. Three bullets made contact and Mr. Ali died on the spot. The Lahore Police Commissioner launched an inquiry into the matter but at this point, the current status of investigation into his assassination remain unknown as are the whereabouts of Tariq.

That is the story behind that trouble Zaid Hamid is going through in Land of Pure  specially with those guys who are familiar with Islam and Hadith..

Pakistan’s new paranoia writes   Manan Ahmed., a historian of Pakistan at Freie Universität Berlin,

    http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100311/REVIEW/703119992/1008/ART

    Quote

Zaid Hamid, pictured in Rawalpindi, standing in front of photographs of his own mujahideen past. Katherine Kiviat for The National

The hardliner philosophies of the charismatic TV host Zaid Hamid have permeated the grassroots political life of Pakistan, writes Manan Ahmed.

    Quote
A new narrative is ascendant in Pakistan. It is in the writings of major Urdu-language newspaper columnists, who purport to marshal anecdotal or textual evidence on its behalf. It is on television, where the hosts of religious and political talk shows polish it with slick production values. The basic elements of the story – which has often, and erroneously, been called a conspiracy theory – are simple. Local agents (or terrorists, or soldiers, or Blackwater employees) representing a foreign power (India, or the United States, or Israel) are intent on destroying Pakistan   because they fear that it will otherwise emerge as the powerful leader of the Muslim world, just as the country’s past leaders had predicted. The ascendant narrative is prophetic and self-pitying, nationalist and martial; it is a way to interpret current events and a call for activism to restore the country’s interrupted rise to glory.

The consumers of this narrative represent the largest demographic slice of Pakistan – young, urban men and women under the age of 30. They came of age under a military dictatorship with a war on their borders, and, more recently, almost daily terrorist attacks in their major cities. The twin poles of their civic identity – Pakistan and Islam – are under immense stress. They love Pakistan; they want to take Islam back from the jihadists. But there is no national dialogue, and no vision for the state: no place, in other words, where the young can make sense of their own country. Pakistan is ideologically adrift and headed toward incoherence, unable to articulate its own meaning as either a state or a nation. To the anguished question “Whither Pakistan?” the country’s leaders provide no response.

A man named Zaid Hamid, who has perhaps done more than anyone else to promote the new narrative of national victimhood, says that he has a clear answer. We are, he argues, living in the apocalyptic end-times – and Pakistan must emerge as the leader of the last struggle. ...... In his ceremonial Urdu, laced with Quranic verses and English idioms, he tells the gathered that they represent a generation hand-picked by God to lead Pakistan. He warns them of the sinister forces arrayed against the blessed nation of Pakistan. He assures them that prophecies predict their victory – all they have to do is mobilize. .......
    Quote
Zaid Hamid is the leading voice of this new Pakistani revivalism. His mysterious rise to prominence demonstrates the power of the new televised media – and the new social networks – in Pakistan, even as it provokes questions about his financial and political backers. In 2006, Hamid was a one-man think-tank in Islamabad, issuing defence and security analysis for his own company, Brasstacks. In 2007 the country, led by the Lawyers’ Movement, rallied against the military regime of Pervez Musharraf and upended the established order across the nation. After the national elections of 2008, as well as the military operations in the north-west, Hamid emerged as the host of his own programme on the independent channel TV One. Within the year, he became one of the biggest stars of the Pakistani punditocracy – spreading his message in columns and op-eds, on YouTube channels and in solidly produced television documentaries.

Through each new phase in his explosive ascent to the pinnacle of Pakistan’s media landscape, Hamid remained a staunchly patriotic booster of the Pakistani military, and a vicious critic of “foreign” meddling in Pakistan’s affairs – usually carried out, in his account, by the American CIA or the Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). He promoted a martial understanding of the Pakistani past, resplendent in the glory of jihad in Kashmir and Afghanistan. The country’s army and air force, he explained, had bravely faced down threats from India, America and Israel – but they were often undermined by their own politicians...............................

Read it all at the link., It is interesting to note why this fellow is NOT contesting elections when there were/are plenty of by elections going on in Pakistan..  Would not be easier for him to sit in Parliament and talk his  political rederic to people of Pakistan through Parliament??

It is just talk..talk..talk.. and dope some innocent young fellows in to loosing their lives for the sake of his stupid Islam..

I wont give a hoot if Pakistan 'defies' all this "Sharia is our destiny" mantra and becomes a 100% secular state. I dont give a damn if people get worried that some religious mumbo jumbo is what that unites and made our country. Bullshit! A country like Pakistan exists whether the world likes it or not!

No one has to fucking justify Pakistan's existence to everyone else when it shuns Islamised nonsense and strives for a secular future.

An Interview with Abdul Sattar Edhi, the founder of the Edhi Foundation,
    Quote

    Q. Your foundation is involved in a range of activities. How do you decide what projects to pursue?

    A. My work involves supporting those who have no one to look after them. That also involves looking after the dead bodies and arranging a respectable burial for them. I cannot say no to anyone.

    Q. Is there any part of the country where your organisation has encountered problems owing to the security situation?

    A. We have never had any serious problems with anyone. There have been incidents reported by our workers and volunteers regarding hide-snatching [during Eid-ul-Azha] in the past, but we are operating as we always have. In fact, we are also planning to establish centres in Tank and Hangu. Even the Taliban haven’t made any trouble for us; they donated money to the foundation and said they did so because I was helping those who couldn’t help themselves.

    Q. The foundation has accepted donations from the Taliban; does that mean that you agree with their ideology?

    A. No, I do not. I also told them that I do not agree with all the violence and destruction and the effect it has on people’s lives. To that, they said they were not behind the attacks that targeted civilians and ordinary people.

    Q. Have you ever been approached by political or other groups for support?

    A. Once, I was approached by General Hamid Gul, Imran Khan and few others, mostly military and intelligence officials, who were conspiring to overthrow Benazir Bhutto’s second government and wanted me to get involved. I declined because I am a social worker and not a politician. I also did not want to tarnish the credibility of my organisation by getting embroiled in something that obviously seemed quite disturbing. Eventually, I was made to feel threatened enough to temporarily leave the country.

Enough of That FOOL Zaid Hamid.,

What else?? Well we have new book from Wonderful  person who went through terrible tragedies and that is Fatima Bhutto and her new book is " living by the bullet "

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/pakistan/7528599/Fatima-Bhutto-living-by-the-bullet.html  also watch her most recent interview at that link

    Quote
Fourteen years have gone by since her father’s death. But every day of her life, Fatima lives with that murder in her head. She has to live with the fact that it is now Zardari who runs the country. She is a thorn in his side, but has no relationship with him. She sees him go to the White House on official visits. She sees him with Gordon Brown.

The bond between Fatima and her father was extraordinarily strong. When she talks about him, she still cries. But neither she nor Ghinwa – a tall, big-hearted woman who left her native Lebanon to follow Mir Murtaza to Pakistan – harbours anger. 'Anger eats you up, makes you ugly and ultimately kills you,’ says Ghinwa, who is a political activist and chairman of the PPP-Shaheed Bhutto party. 'And if it kills us, then those killers have done their job, not only killing those men, but killing their families as well.’

'I was angry for a long time afterwards, but at some point I realised that itself is an act of violence,’ Fatima says. 'It is better to seek justice.’

Her way of seeking justice was to write her father’s story. Songs of Blood and Sword is published next week. It’s a daughter’s memoir, but it is more than that. Through the history of the Bhutto family, rich feudal landlords of a warrior caste, she tells the story of the newly created state of Pakistan. It is a book about the power of love, but also about a search to avenge her father’s brutal murder.

Good stuff indeed good to read..
