Is it any better on the forum main page now? I haven't had a chance to do the other forum pages yet. I just wanted to test this first.

Oh! Yes, the main page looks good. I'm glad that's the only one you fixed, I was sad when I thought it didn't work for the others.

Awesome. I know what the problem is then. I can fix all the templates easily. I'll do a mass find/replace on them tonight and they should all be good.

If you're curious: the problem appears to be that your browser doesn't deal well with a table cell that is set to align right. The templates have the linktree wrapped in a table (sheesh) and the right cell is for an option that we don't use anyway. So, all I had to do was scrap the table and just leave the linktree div. It doesnt do that on mine. strange. would the browser you're using affect it?

    Cool, nice find Os.

It may have to do with your browser. I'm using Android's default browser, but apparently this problem happens on Dolphin as well. Are you using an Android phone?

Nope. i have a samsung which has Dolphin but its terrible. Cant see this page at all on it and I've had problems viewing other sites. I've downloaded opera mini and every site works perfectly on this, automatically resizes everything too Smiley only problem is it doesnt turn side ways when i use my slide out qwety keyboard

What kind of Samsung do you have?

I tried both Dolphin and Opera Mini (and a few others) on my phone. Although I like Opera on the desktop, I wasn't as happy with any of those mobile browsers as Android's default one. So I just stick with that now.

So what screen resolution do you guys have on these phones? I can knock up a specific mobile theme pretty easily but it might help if I know what res it has to deal with. I never browse from a mobile myself.

    320x480

Any ideas regarding the missing phone icon in the thread title?

  • Re: Accessing this site on your phone?

No idea really. I can only assume that perhaps the sniffer in this software was coded before your phone and/or browser was available and therefore doesn't recognise it.

Ok I've just had a look at some of the other templates and they don't have the linktree div wrapped in anything else anyway, so hopefully they shouldn't give problems. Are any pages still doing that "offset next to the header" thing?

Main page is OK; the rest is unfortunately still buggered.
  • Re: Accessing this site on your phone?

Weird. The other pages don't have the table around the linktree so I'm stuffed if I know why removing it fixed the main page but the others are still up the shit.
Is it breaking in exactly the same place as the main page was? (ie: directly after the linktree)

Yep. And I did clear the cache prior to testing in case you are wondering.

Mine is working great now. It's all lined up on all the pages. Afro

    My screen res is 640x480.

Kenan, maybe try a different browser? I'm not using Dolphin.

Ok, I've roughed out a mobile version of our site default theme. It's still a bit WIP but it works. I'll do a bit more on it later. Has three colour options and is good to go on screens 320 to 640 wide. Don't bitch about the minor glitches yet, unless something blows up and trashes the forum for you.  grin12

You can select it in the theme change thingy or in your profile, and it's crap on a big screen.  bunny

Oh yeah, the shoutbox will be going at the top and will be full width and collapsible.

The recent posts are down the bottom, as is the login form and some other stuff.

There is no side column since mobile screens is effink tiny anyway.  parrot

Yes useful, as these days more & more people are using their mobile phones to browse the internet.  I still find the screen size gives me a neck & headache if I surf for any longer than 15 minutes.

I have a couple of requests for the mobile theme:

    1. Can the poster's name and the post title be put in the same table row?
    2. Can signatures be turned off or hidden?

That would make for less scrolling. I know what a pain it is to edit templates, so if it'll be too difficult then don't worry about it. It's already a huge improvement! Smiley

Not sure what you mean about the first one. Which page are we talking about?

Second one is already covered in the next version. Sigs and attachments are hidden. There is also a "go to top of page" and "go to bottom of page" link on all pages, not just inside threads. Also, clicking the theme header will redirect to the forum main page instead of the front page.

Oh and I'm dumping as many tables as I can. You wouldn't believe the number of tables in the coding for 1.1.11. It's like they didn't just use them where they were needed. They seem to have bunged in a whole 'nother table at every possible location FFS. I can strip a lot of them down to a div and a couple of spans with the simplified layout of the mobile theme.

I meant inside threads... topic view? There is one row with the poster's name, and a second one with the post title. Putting those side by side will save a lot of space. Otherwise everything else looks great, and nice ideas on upcoming changes Afro

Ok, I see what you mean. I'm redesigning that template anyway as the version of the theme you are using was just a quick hack to get something usable on a mobile. Bear in mind though that you are running a 640 wide screen and the same theme has to handle Kenan's 320 wide screen. I am not  making two completely separate mobile themes.  Tongue
On a 320 the extra lines are necessary so you will just have to live with them.

Ah, I see. Well that's no problem then .oO(Why can't Kenan get a bigger screen finmad)

It looks great anyway, though. And I noticed SMF 2.0 RC3 is out. When you said soon, you weren't kidding!
