Hm, doesn't appear in my Theme, although it's the default. I guess I will have to add it to every index.template.php file. :(

Dunno if the server has gzipping or not but can't we just store the damned thing as a gzip anyway? If it is going to be sent as gzip then surely there would be some way of storing it as gzip and sending that.

Also we are going to need to have graceful degradation for browsers that wont handle this stuff. That is important to bear in mind, given that we have members from all over the place. I would like people from Afghanistan who have never heard of Chrome Frame and are still stuck with IE6 to be able to use the site without problems.

If you are going through them anyway at the moment add the meta tag for Frame to all the themes that don't have it yet. The site default has it but I don't think the others do. It has to go in the first few bytes of the file to work, so don't bung it at the end of head. I put it just after the doctype tag I think.

That wouldn't work, because Apache would serve the gzip file with a different mime-type and the browser wouldn't know that it must be decompressed first.

No problem. I won't use jQuery to code stuff that would make the site unusable for older browsers.

Sorry, I missed that one about the meta tag. What I meant was to run Google Chrome Frame inside IE you have to have a meta tag that calls up Frame when it is installed. It has to go in the first 1024 bytes of readable code, so I usually put it just after the charset tag and before all the other tags.

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="chrome=1">

Pity about the gzip (mime type aint my forte). Any way around that so Apache will serve it correctly? There must be some stunt we can pull there.

The workaround
1: Click reply
2: Click Quote

It's only an extra step, sure, but only if you know the workaround. If you don't know the workaround and always click "Quote" then the feature isn't there and you have no idea why not.

You can turn off the quick reply feature in your profile. Then when you click the quote link it will load the full reply page (where you can use the quote splitting feature.)

Why would anyone want to turn off quick reply? It's friggin awesome.

Would be cooler to enable quote splitting in the quick reply. Just sayin'.
