Yep, it got to a stage when everyone was automatically & unnecessarily quoting the post.  You can still do this, but after the message box has opened.

Will do that of course. The box won't be necessary then. It will be automatic. Just want to make sure that it works for practically everybody here. Smiley

Btw, that article seems to contain no Unicode characters. Smiley

They ALWAYS contain characters that are unreadable, usually speech marks with which it was ok with in this article .

I believe that's a deliberate design decision made by osmanthus. I guess he wants to avoid that people quote the last posting which sometimes contains a lot of text.

I don't see anyone ever quoting full posts.. people generally only quote the bits they want to answer. But its irritating and confusing to have to manually quote each time.

I'll make a new thread for it.

Bullshit they do. If there is a quote button on the last post people just quote entire posts without thinking. I have even seen people quote entire articles from earlier posts just so they can reply with something like "Yeah". It was way over the top, which is why we had to do something about it.

Ok Aziz, our database tables are collated in latin_swedish and I was going to do a UTF-8 conversion later anyway. Is this thing of yours likely to lead to any possible problems further down the track. It make me nervous when too many things are applied without thorough debugging. IMO this sort of thing belongs on a test site, not on the db for a live site.

I'll point out that the last time we live tested a "fix" for the Unicode issues here it led to that bug with the question marks being inserted in pasted posts. That was not there before and has been impossible to eliminate since.

I agree with that, but it still happens from time to time.  Angry

Believe me, nothing problematic will happen. Once the conversion is done, I will just remove my code changes.

Or maybe I won't remove my code changes, because the HTML documents are not in UTF-8. So I guess the server will still receive text in a non-Unicode encoding. I don't know how much we'd have to change at the server side to make this work without my JavaScript code. At the moment my solution is very simple and it works! Smiley

Can someone who reads Arabic please check that to make sure it isn't buggered? Thanks.

Course it does. I say we leave it like this for at least a day, so that people can test it a bit more. Test now, or don't come crying to me when I enable the code permanently for everybody and when it doesn't work for you!

I see. The enable unicode textbox shows only when you click reply to a post, but in the small textbox which shows at the bottom of all posts doesn't have this textbox? could it be added here too please?

Ah, the Quick reply feature. I hadn't thought of that. Let me see what I can do.

Edit: Will take a while. Thanks for pointing this out, because my code doesn't handle the quick reply form at all.
