    The page

    states that it is run by the "Central council for ex muslims of Scandinavia".
    It gives the impression to be associated with CEMB.

    Is this genuine? What's the story?

    Edit: The link www.ex-muslime.com, mentioned on their first page, links to a parked site.

    Didn't realise they had parked their other domain. It is linked from our front page. Yes, they are legit. There are branches in Germany and Scandi. I'll update the link show it goes to their new page. Goddam they need some new graphics though. That low quality jpg horror is is a bit rough on the optic nerves.  grin12

    It is a pity that the fora on those two sites have been discontinued. Is there no chance for this forum to be extended for use in those two sites also? Maybe you already tried?

    I have thought about that. From a hosting point of view it would make sense to have all the sites on the same server.

    I've been thinking about launching my own forum for German ex-Muslims. The German "Zentralrat der Ex-Muslime" used to have some guest space (a subforum) on another German secularist/atheist forum, but that got closed down due to inactivity, lack of staff or whatever. Currently there are a few discussion forums about Islam in German, but they are slightly bigoted and don't really cater to the needs of real ex-Muslims or those who are doubting their faith and need a friendly and understanding place where they can share their issues with other apostates.

    I'd be glad if people here could help me out and I'd be more than willing to play the admin. Hosting space could be provided by this place. I could ask the German COEM and see if they would like to support us, they could redirect from ex-muslime.de/forum/* to this server, but I'm not completely sure if that is a good idea from a technical point of view.

    You might also want to contact the moderator 9forget her name) in FFI who is also German, you never know she might also be interested..

    Not sure why a redirect would be problematical and I agree that sharing the server, which has adequate space, would make a lot of sense. It would even be possible to have a German language board on this site by using utf-8 and enabling user-selectable languages. That may be more trouble than it is worth though as you'd need quite a few boards to make it worthwhile. Might be better to keep them as separate domains.

    I'll email Matt about extra server space if you're serious about this. I don't expect he'd have a problem with it.

    Hey osmanthus, (just read your PM)

    I'd love to make this happen. I was just thinking about a technical solution to this problem. I think we just have to tell the admin of the German COEM to create a CNAME or DNAME record (still don't understand the difference) that points to this server. Something like "forum.ex-muslime.de -> 64.91.228.45". And the admin of this place would have to create a VirtualHost that has "forum.ex-muslime.de" as its ServerName. I guess it has to be done this way, but I'd like you to contact Matt and ask him what he thinks and how this can best be solved.

    In the meanwhile you could create a new separate forum with SMF 2.0 (newest RC). We can hook everything up a bit later, after I have contacted the person who manages ex-muslime.de.

    Edit: Don't forget to set everything up as UTF-8 from the start. Smiley

    Yeah we could do that. Moving it to another domain is no problem. There's a repair_settings.php you can load and run after shunting the files and db over to where you want them. I have six db's available on this domain. You could either get a new domain for the German board (I think that would be best) or run it in a sub-domain off this one (not as good an option IMHO).

    Oh and I think I'll change the table collation for this place to utf-8 anyway as soon as I'm sure the upgrade utility wont bugger it again. Wink

    A new domain might be good, but I've got no money for that and it would look detached from ex-muslime.de. Though, this forum also has its own domain and is very successful, so who cares?
    If we don't get forum.ex-muslime.de, then I'd rather choose to have de.councilofexmuslims.com.

    Ok. We'll do whatever works. Domains are cheap. Can't see why you couldn't have one, especially if the German council are prepared to chip in with hosting costs. The subdomain would work too though.

    I didn't put it in a sub-domain as such because for some reason cPanel didn't want to extract into a sub-domain. Can copy all the files over to one if you want though.

    Wow! What activity!

    Once the German solution is up and running, we might try to get something going for Scandinavia also along the same pattern. I could try to contact some of the persons that appear on the Scandi-site, unless somebody here already has channels into that group. I also kinda feel it would be an advantage if somebody who is actually an ex-muslim was the person to drive this. Do we have any Scandinavian volunteers?

    ExMuslim.net isn't in German but in some Scandinavian language...
    And the forum doesn't work here...? xD

    I do not see any icons. I also get no sensible things out of any of the involved URL:s. I tried:

    That is the temporary home of the new German language board. Aziz is looking at getting it set up on its own domain on our server soon. The icons I'm talking about are shown in the screenshot.  

    In fact I should get Aziz to install the same mod over at the German board so that people can buzz topics there too. Can't hurt. Might help.
