    That's probably because IE8 isn't really one of the latest generation of browsers.  grin12

    Really I'd advise trying all of them out. I have IE6, IE7 and IE8 installed for testing IE quirks and silliness, as well as Firefox 2, 3, 3.5 and 3.6, and Opera 10.0 and 10.5 and Safari 4 and Google Chrome and Flock.  That's a dozen different browsers of various generations and they are all easy to use.

    Obviously it isn't worth your while trying the obsolete ones but Opera 10.5 and Safari 4 are very nice pieces of work and can be easily installed on your home PC if you want to give them a run.

    Whoops, I stand corrected, if compatibility view is switched off then the annoying scrolling problem reappears.

    When I switch it on, then it disappears, so I'll have to run this site on compatability view

    Cool. As long as you can make it work somehow. Compatibility view can be set specifically by site so it shouldn't inconvenience you much.

    ETA: What the old meta tag did was tell IE8 to render in compatibility view anyway. They must have just changed something in the later builds that conflicted with the meta tag.

    Hey Islame, it turns out that IE8 doesn't have a built-in spell checker. Fancy that. Good ol' awesome IE functionality FTW.  dance

    Anyway, you can get a free one here: http://www.iespell.com/

    Just wondering if you tried this and if it worked well for you. Smiley

    Why, has my spelling got worse in my posts?

    I tried it out as soon as you mentioned it.  But it didnt work for me.. however it was probably cos I was doing something wrong.

    Ok. I was just curious if it was any good for people on IE. I've never tried using it so I don't know how it works. I should probably take a look at it.

    Regarding the issue with buttons dissapearing, I could be wrong but sounds as though it could be cache related. Have you tried clearing msie's cache / history, restarting the browser and then trying again when the problem has been experienced?

    I noticed there's no cache expiry set in the headers on this forum. I know a lot of forums place something similar to the following in their headers:
    <!-- no cache headers -->
    <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" />
    <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" />
    <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache" />
    <!-- end no cache headers -->
