     OP - September 14, 2009, 06:58 PM

Ive mentioned before that Ive been hoping to translate the blog in my signature into a youtube video.

It wont be a typical youtube video, and will be a specialised & niche product aimed at young muslim youth who are beginning there quest of kaffirdom.  It will be in depth look at the whole of Islam, not just certain aspects of it.

When I started out I did not know anyone like me, and it was a very lonely path to tread as I thought I was the only one who had ever walked it.  I thought I was inherently bad, with messed up thoughts, and I dont really want anyone to go through what I did again.

As some of you already know the blog started out as a letter after a long discussion with my religious cousin, and I have since updated it with tit bits I have learned from here and other sources.  Its quite a long document and is out of reach of most muslims who are beginning to have doubts, so I wanted to translate it into something more visual and accessible.

Its a long project and is about 10,000 words long.  I plan to make it into a series of say 10 videos about 5 minutes long each and will post them here for thoughts, suggestions and improvements.

If anyone else what to do something similar, we can create a workshop here to offer help for anyone who needs help on how to start.  I've never done this before so it should be quite a challenge.

Anyhow this thread should provide me with the motivation to make a start so here goes.... and watch this space....

First part done - let me know what you think, note Ive addressed it to a different audience, those that are currently studying Islam in more depth.

I think my voice is sounds quite monotonous, but there was a lot to read/ do you think I should redo it?

Let me know how I can improve it, so if there are any fixable mistakes then i can sort them out before the next videos..

It's good but the audio still needs to be more distinct. I'm just using the built-in speakers that came with my monitor and they haven't got the oomph to really make your voice clear. Probably fine when hooked up to external speakers.

what should I do to fix it?  Do I need a separately powered microphone?  At the minute the microphone just plugs in as a jack plug into my computer

Good video-even though I have read the piece already

You have a nice yet soft Mancurian accent and a soothing deep voice.

Didn't think anything of it-it wasn't too quiet or too distorted and was adequate in volume and quality for me.

Hass - I'd like to mirror 3 of your videos if thats ok - the scientific miracles, your story, and the prophets of islam.  Can you tell me how I should do that?  I might also mirror one of zomits as well as the 'power of stupid people in large groups' video, if anyone remembers the link..

If anyone else wants to do some youtube videos about any subject, here are some pointers and how I ot round some issues:

    i) download audacity & read out your text, using a microphone or webcam
ii) convert to .ogg file from the file menu
iii) then using 'free mp3 wma' convert your file to an mp3 file
iv) cut & paste the mp3 file onto the time line of windows movie maker (comes with windows)
    v) cut, paste and stretch any relevet photos onto this time line and save
vi) register a youtube using an anonymous email address from googlemail and upload your video

and voila its done (remember to point to the coem forum to gain free publicity for this site)

Thats why i called this the 'work in progress' thread - do you want to change it to the "YouTube videos - work in progress & tutorial" thread instead?

We can all learn from each others mistakes - like here the volume was too low, however in Audacity there is an equalizer option where you can artificially boost the volume (with a corresponding lack in quality that I will have to live with - does anyone know of a way round this?  Hassan?).

    I can hardly hear you

I had this problem at first - anyone remember my very first video in reply to Wafa Sultan - my voice was barely audible.

Two things you can do IsLame:

    1. Change the settings on your PC/Mac

    2. Record the voice-over separately. (This is what I do now - I use Garage Band - it's quick easy and I just drag the sound file into iMovie - add pictures - and it's done!)

    Practise makes perfect.

Keep making vids - I just know you will get better Smiley

Hey IsLame, it's actually quite easy to download YouTube videos without those external services.

You just have to bookmark the following "URL" (JavaScript code), and when you're on YouTube watching a video, you can just open this bookmark from your browser menu.
(Note: I had to split the string like this: 'h'+'ttp://w'+'...' because the forum software screws up the code and inserts [url] tags.)
    javascript: args = window.swfArgs; window.location = 'h'+'ttp://w'+'ww.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=18&video_id='+args.video_id+'&t='+args.t;

I will make this easier for everyone and include a shortened link to these download URLs in the info box of Hassan's videos which I have uploaded to my channel. I have the three videos you mentioned, just be patient for a few minutes until I have created these links. I will post them here.

    Here you go:

Scientific Miracles in the Qur'an?: http://sn.im/rv4tb
    Prophets of Islam: http://sn.im/rv50x
    Hassan's story: http://sn.im/rv52x

Tell me if the links don't work or link to the wrong video, I'll correct that immediately.

EDIT: The links don't work anymore. I completely overlooked the fact that a part of the URL is a (token) value which is dynamically generated and expires after a while. :(

Here's my profile on the youtube http://www.youtube.com/exmuslimuk site:

    Quote
I have produced these videos (full transcript here http://www.scribd.com/doc/19390943/Islam/) because I dont want anyone else to go through the same feelings of guilt and sadness that I had during my process of reevaluation.

I used to pray 5 times a day and kept a tally on the wall of kaza prayers I had missed in case I forgot them later, I fasted and  tried my best to remain a good muslim.

However I could never rid myself of my doubts.  I felt bad and alone, as I had never come across a muslim apostate before, There had to be something wrong with me.  I kept quiet and became insular and with great sadness, the more I looked into it, the greater my doubts grew.

That was right up till the day that I decided I could no longer continue this charade, and I finally became free.

If you would to discuss any of the issues raised here, then please visit me at the forum for the Council of ex-muslims (my member name is Islame at the link above).  Here you will find a friendly group of people for chit-chat and I will be pleased to help and answer any questions you may have.

Just one thing... Audacity lets you export as MP3 (File > Export as MP3) thus you can skip a couple of steps here. Smiley

I tried it using audacity, but you needed to download something else, so I used the program shown that I already had (i used to it convert my favourite songs to my mobile phone, so I could play them in the car  Afro)

Ah yeah, that additional install bit gets a bit confusing.
