There is a nifty little free tool that will do the same and much more called CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/

I might be missing something, but isn't it really straightforward to clear your browsing history? After you have deleted your browsing history and cookies, what else is there to delete?

Obviously not, that is why I am getting confused that this thread is here! I always thought it was pretty easy to clear your browsing history, but this suggests to me that a lot more than your cookies and browsing history remains on your computer and you need specific programmes to get rid of it!

No, you're right. It is a simple process but you'd be surprised how many people don't know a lot of basic things about computers. Since clearing browsing history may be important for some members, and since the process varies slightly from browser to browser, I thought stickying Allat's very useful link might help some people out a bit.

Some notes if your are trying to hide web surfing habits:
    - If you use a router, you might want to check if there are logs make to websites visited
    - If you are connected via wireless, you need to be aware that someone on the same wifi network can detect your web surfing via packet sniffing software such as (Wireshark)
    - If you are signed into a Google account, this can be checked for internet history using http://www.google.com/history/
    - and finally, if someone works at Google or for your ISP, they can track your web habits (though I think this is illegal without your consent in the UK, but I suppose a rogue can do it)

Therefore, I advise to beat your enemy, know your enemy first ...

Also, tip: one can privately browse using incognito mode available on the Chrome browser. Can be done on other browsers too.

Thats true, I remember our senior director at the bank, who was pulling in a few million pounds salary per year, didnt even know how to shut his computer down.  Instead he just left in on 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, causing all sorts of havoc for I.T.

Reminds me of my missus when my battery vibrating razor was left  on inside a cup.  She was intrigued and called me to have a look at the razor which she thought has hit its resonant frequency when I dropped it inside the  glass.  I told her much to her painful embrassment that it was just due to the battery being left on.

    Bless.. Smiley
