Here is a poem by Abd Al-Rahman, the First Umayyad Caliph of Spain:
A palm tree stands in the middle of Rusafa,
Born in the West, far from the land of palms.
I said to it: How like me you are, far away and in exile,
In long separation from family and friends.
You have sprung from the soil in which you are a stranger;
And I, like you, am far from home.
sourceIs this better than the Quran? It is certainly gentler, more subtle, more humble, and more humane. It touches on human emotions like loneliness, nostalgia for one's homeland and lost youth, and the loss of loved ones and it does all this in a couple of simple lines and 1 single metaphor.
Is there anything like this in the Quran?
