  • Which internet browser & operating system do you use?
     OP - August 21, 2009, 11:51 PM

    Might be a useful question for the mods:  I use Internet explorer 8 for the internet and windows vista for my operating system on my laptop (which I use 95% of the time).  For my desktop I use IE8 & windows XP.

    For those using IE8, I have another question.  I have a problem when opening tabs within IE8.  Some of the tabs (about 1 in every 5 I open) just cant search for a website and they jam.  The hourglass just keeps on rotating and the site is never found.  Just need to work out if this is this a fault within IE8, or whether its related to my pc so I can fix it.

    Hey Islame, are you getting the same problem with IE8 that Paloma hit? When trying to type replies does the text box jump around or anything?
    IE8 is an advance over IE7 (which really was shit) but the skin for 8 is just damned uggers IMO.

    I run Firefox 3.5 myself but too be honest in some ways it is buggier than 3.0. Just some minor stuff-ups with css and javascript sometimes.
    I'm almost tempted submit some bug reports to Mozilla and run Opera until they fix it. You can't beat the range of add-ons though, especially for site development work.

    I'm using Firefox 3.5.2... ^^

    @Osmanthus
    Firefox has always been 100% stable, until I installed 3.5...
    It has crashed like 2 times since then...
    Nothing to worry about, but still.

    I haven't had any crashing problems yet, but I have noticed problems with the scrolling. Firefox has always had slightly jerky scrolling compared to other browsers (which is another thing I should hassle them about  grin12 ) but 3.5 has a particular problem with pages that have a fixed background with the main content scrolling over them. Very jerky.

    Using a fixed background is a nice css trick that gives a very good effect on some pages and it's annoying that Mozilla have gone and ballsed it up with their latest release. Mind you I expect they know about it since the effect is quite widely used. I'm hoping they'll sort it fairly quickly. Otherwise Opera 10 is always a good standby (although the new default skin sux IMO).

    Safari 3.1 was pretty good but no add-ons and no skins available. I should load up Safari 4 and see how that goes.
