  • Involuntary Circumcision - a chance to have your say
     OP - August 14, 2009, 06:19 PM

    Hi All
I'm a trustee for NORM-UK - a charity which seeks to raise awareness of the function of the foreskin, and to promote a man's right to choose to keep it.

    Did you know for example:
    - that the foreskin is around 15 square inches of tissue ?
    - that its tip is a man's penile G-spot?
    - that it contains antibacterial and anti-viral substances including those which can destroy HIV?
    - that it plays a role in sexual lubrication and female orgasm?
    - that babies cut without anaesthetic show memory of the pain months later?
    - that only 1% of men will ever need a medical circumcision?
    - that cutting a female foreskin (as in Shafi'i Islam) is punishable by jail?

I thought those of you who've lost yours without consent might like the chance to contribute to one of the movements for legal change in this area.

The Tasmanian Law Reform Institute is consulting on this issue after the Children's Rights Commissioner there expressed a view that amputating healthy functional genital tissue violates a child's human rights. The consultation closes on 28th August.
I can't post a link but if you google the Institute with the word circumcision you'll find the paper and on page three it gives you an email address for contributions.

There are also moves in Denmark to ban non therapeutic circumcision in under 15s so this will be worth watching as it will give other countries courage to consider this too.

    best wishes
    Laura

Funnily enough, my sister and I were discussing this the other day. She's given birth to a gorgeous little boy and - despite leanings towards Islam and a belief in god - she does not want her son circumcised. But her husband, my bro-in-law, is adamant about it!

There is also evidence from some studies that circumcision reduces HIV transmission. So maybe inconclusive.

Wouldn't argue with the other points.

Can't miss what you didnt enjoy, am I right guys?

    But seriously,
I think this is a serious issue and I applaud you for fighting for it. Parents should not have the right to cut off the foreskin of their children. Its completely barbaric. I believe that the first step in counteracting this will be spreading facts to counteract the jewish and islamic propaganda on the so called benefits of circumcision.

I wonder what the background was to circumcision in the first place?

Most of us accept Islam borrowed this tradition from Judaism, but where did Abraham get it from?

Some sort of funny sacrifice thing I imagine. The early Jews were right into sacrifices, but I suppose they weren't keen on chopping their knobs off.  grin12

Diem you definately can miss what you've never had, try asking a circumcised woman who lives in the UK! Of course some don't miss what they've lost because they're kept totally in ignorance... i had a Muslim boyfriend who was totally in denial about his circ, although it very clearly had harmed his ability to come, and sex was unpleasant for me because of it. He cried when i told him about what he was missing and what i was missing ....but i had to because he was insisting he would cut our sons. Now he says it stops with him.

To Islame who denies the tip of the foreskin is the male Gspot read the research - we've looked at the nerves under a microscope and tested it with fine touch instruments - it's been proven beyond doubt (check out Sorrells et al for example). But you can test it easily for yourself - ask a girlfriend to do this - pull it up over the head and force a tongue underneath and run it right round - magic! (you can try it on her afterwards but this is almost too much sensation!)

To Pazuzu who's sister wants to keep her baby intact check out the new Egyptian campaign against male genital reduction - they have a page on facebook and will provide her with support and encouragement.

OK, I accept what you say after reading http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/jun/26/health.gender

Leaving aside you ex-boyfriend who may have been suffering from some other problems, as most people who have been circumcised do not have a problem with orgasms.

In any case doesnt this just make it pleasurable for both parties if lasts for longer?

I suppose there must have been a similar sort of superstition about penis' to why people from this particular tribe do this to their penis':

You're right things like this and whether there is a g-spot on the foreskin, should be pretty much common knowledge for those with or without one  Huh?

Bottom line: we don't need to interfere with nature. Animals are not circumcised and they run in the wild and roll in the mud and they have their foreskin intact. Not just that, their penises retract inside their pelvises for more protection. I see the foreskin as a natural way of protecting the most important part of the penis.... The Glans!

         - that's why I'm sceptical about this whole g-spot business . I can't remember any man ever asking me to do anything to his foreskin , I'm sure if it was that pleasurable you'd all know about it ....

that said i'm not in favour of circumcision - there might be some slight gain in terms of hygiene but I don't think that's enough to justify it

Rofl. Yeah pretty much. It's an unnecessary procedure in 99% of cases so why bother with it when the natural style is perfectly ok?

I have my doubts about this, and I'm not circumcised.

I think she meant the inner side of the foreskin, especially close to where it attaches to the base of the head. And the frenulum.
Those are super sensitive, at least for me.
    More than the head itself.

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.
