When I was a kid I wanted to change my name to an English name.

I'm lucky enough to not have a muslim name Tongue The rest of my sisters and brother do though.

I was part of a kiddy gang, and we went round on bikes and wanted my codename to be Colin.

My 9 year-old son (Ibrahim) called himself, Gary, then Max and now Blockhead at school and his friends comply.

My 8 year-old daughter (Safa) calls herself Sasha when she's being a pop star but her mum told her off and told her to be proud of her name.

How did you manage that?! Do you have a Muslim name that also sounds English, like Adam?

Is your 9 year old son a fan of Ian Dury?

    My first thought was "YES!".
Would've saved me a lot of trouble.
    But I don't know...
This "struggle" is part of my personality.
After I decided that Islam is bulls**t, I became way more liberal.
And I love being liberal... ^_^
I only still have to liberate myself from Islam in front of my family... =_=

My name's Marina. I'm the first born, my parents were probably not hugely religious back then I'm guessing. They were fighting over my name, one of them wanted to name me Marina and the other wanted me to be called Afsha. The former won, thank god. I like my name yes

LOL! I know which girl off TV. Her name is Marina Khan, she used to be a popular actress from Pakistani drama serials. Here she is:-

I sometimes wished that I was born into a family that were already secular humanists or even socialists. At least you wouldn't have to go through any silly exercises in leaving Islam. I have been to homes where the obsession with religion has reached some dizzy heights especially the ahl-e-hadith folk. Talk about being literal!

Yeah I have when I was younger, but I guess sometime you just stop wishing for things that can never be changed, accept the current situation and figure out how to make this better/they way you wish it to be.
