I guess it's because WAP phones can only interpret text, but no JavaScript code, which is used by the ShoutBox.

I see it with my iphone... it is pretty much the same web shape and size as from a pc. I guess even windows-based PDAs and smart phones are the same!

Yes but I'm thinking your iPhone doesn't use WAP. Either that or iPhone interprets things other than text too, whereas the internet on my phone is entirely text based.

I was in b'ham waiting for a train when I came online using my fone, just thought i would see if it worked lol. I'm back home for the summer now

That's the right answer. ^^
The Iphone uses a complete different webbrowser and was probably connected using WiFi.

I don't know which phone you have. But you could check if it works with the Opera Mini webbrowser:
