btw none of the buttons are working now, for me.

Ok, so the quote button works on this account.

    ETA: Modify button works too.

    K. There appears to be a problem with the quick edit on standard member permissions. I'll take a look at it.

Welcome to the forum Warren Bungler. I am sure you will like it here. Don't listen to Osmanthus, he is the muslim here and he pretends to be the admin of the forum.

Yep. Warren is my test account for when I need to check permissions other than admin. Admin accounts automatically have full permissions everywhere so they aren't always suitable for testing.

It's even worse! The buttons are now laying on the line that separates the post from the sigs. It also appears above the text on signatures where there is a lot of text

Peru, which bloody browser are you using? Lemme guess. Chrome, right? Ok, I just checked it in Safari, which runs the same rendering engine as Chrome, and it's like your screenshot. All browsers other than Firefox and Opera should be banned. Tongue

    ETA: Testing attachments.

Ok it's sorted in Chrome and Safari and it even works in Internet Themerooter too. Miraculous. Still not sure why the Edit button is only working on an admin account but I'll take another look later.

Whoopee. Got me a new avatar. Grin

    ETA: Another test edit.

Yes, I'm using Chrome Tongue I like it, it looks simpler and uses little screen space.

grin12 I don't actually mind Webkit browsers too much but they do have some issues with margins, etc. As for screen space, my Firefox 3.5 uses as little of it as Chrome does and gives better functionality. Toolbar customisation FTW.  Afro

Anyway is it working for you now?

No. It's a javascript/xml error. The conditional statement for the quick edit is the same one as for the advanced edit. Basically I buggered something when I moved it but I haven't figured out what yet. Should be able to sort it soon.

I might rename them to "Quick Edit" and "Full Edit" or something to make it a bit clearer too.

if you have a backup of the old xml, maybe you can replace and see if it corrects the problem! Just a thought!

I didn't edit it. I just shuffled some things around in the php template.  Smiley

I have some suspicions about the cause but haven't quite nailed it yet.

I've found a problem with this new policy:

What about when you write a reply and by the time you post it, several other people have made replies? Then it is no longer a reply to the post directly above you and you have to go back to the thread and quote them.

if it says a "reply has already been posted" when you click <post> then just quote the one you are replying to, if you need to.

The forum always tells me if someone has made a new reply while I've been writing mine before I post.  Go into the settings part of your profile and you can set it so that it tells you too.

It isn't not knowing whether someone has made a new reply until you press post that is the problem. The problem begins as soon as you make a new reply. You can't quote the person directly above you because it's been made to assume that you definitely will be the next person to reply as soon as you press it.

I'm just thinking whether the benefits of making pages shorter really outweighs the annoyance of being notified of a new reply whilst your writing your own and having to go back to quote the person?

You don't really have to do that though.  If you want you can press reply then just scroll down and press the "quote this post" button" and then write your reply.

This was Hassan in another thread:

btw Oz that last post of mine was in reply to your post a couple of posts away. It was the last post when I started writing it - but when I finally posted it became adrift from your post by two posts.

Am I the only one that is really pissed off that you took the quote button away and cannot see the benefit of doing that?

Yep. If you have the notification turned on in your profile settings it wont let you submit a reply if someone else has beaten you to it, and as soon as it notifies you then you can just insert the quote from the list that is right in front of you. I honestly can't see why it is a problem.

ETA: Maybe I should turn the notification on for everyone in admin.

I checked and it is already enabled by default for all members, so if anyone is not getting the notification that means they have turned it off themselves, in which case they can turn it back on if it will help them.

Well I never turned anything off, but I don't think I get this notification... Hang on a minute... do you mean when you press the post button and it instead of posting it it tells in red letters that you that x number of replies have been made whilst I was typing?
