I thought this video was interesting especially coming from a physicist that is a Muslim.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA8e66Vejkw

I thought this was interesting viewing. Unlike Dawahman (Dawahman!) and his ilk he seems to have a very healthy view of religion and reality. He seems to separate the two for practical reasons (doesn't bring bias views into the lab) while focusing more on the spiritual aspect in his personal life. Also not running around shoving mics into peoples faces (Dawahman! Dawahman!), he seems more live and let live. Hopefully this catches on.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I swear I've heard the interviewers voice on a video here. He seemed so confused especially in the discussion about the big bang.

I share a similar opinion. He seemed more concerned about his own faith, religion and spirituality rather than trying to prove to others why he believes and why it is true. To me it seems like he feels no need to constantly proselytize to people.

The video with the Sikh + Dawah man was pretty good. I like the Sikh guy a lot. The mention of TheRationalizer was particularly cool. I even found myself agreeing with most of what he said about Sikhism - "God doesnt care about religion" etc. Although I am an atheist, certainly a god that did exist would have to much less pathetic than the one described by Islam.

and it turns out that Sikhism has many of the same 'scientific miracles' as Islam, they just aren't as desperately trying to prove it to everybody else.

i wrote the following on dawahman's facebook post regarding that video  with the Sikh talking about rhetorical devices (with a fake account though Wink). The Sikh guy gave it a thumbs it.

    Quote
The claim that the quran contains more than any other (Arabic?) text is such a laughably ambitious claim. To make such a claim, you would have to compare every sentence of arabic text ever written, checking each word against a basically infinite list of rhetorical devices.

If the quran contains the highest frequency, then which book contains the second highest frequency? Nobody in the world can answer that question, because NOBODY HAS ACTUALLY CHECKED. Furthermore, it is quite clear that nobody could possibly check, and that nobody with any sense would even want to. That is why it is so easy to dismiss the argument as ludicrous.

Asides from claiming with certainty, things which are unknowable, the argument is also beset with being irrelevant.
Nobody has ever justified why it should even matter if the quran has the highest frequency of devices. Some book has to have the highest number. In fact, every language would have its own text with the highest number. So there is one of these 'miracles' per language.

What is the precise frequency above which we should conclude a supernatural source? Again a question that nobody can answer, because the argument is simply imprecise, meaningless tosh.

Hamza Tzortzis and all those who copy him (such as dawah man), have attempted to justify it's significance by describing the alleged highest frequency of rhetorical devices as a miracle. The problem is that he has plagiarised his definition of miracle (from Christian theologian William Lane Craig), at the same time as misunderstood what he was plagiarising, then misrepresented it (more than once), and at the same time as lying about the words of his own god by claiming that this definition is the 'quranic' one.

So what we end up with is a handful of lazy idiots like hamza tzortzis who assert idiotic arguments. Then other dawah guys who somehow have not noticed the laziness and the idiocy of the people they take these arguments from, repeat them without checking any aspect of it. When such a person comes across an educated skeptic (such as a Sikh Oxford graduate for example), they end up looking silly. But the Muslim fans (none of whom understand the argument either) triumphantly beat their chests anyway.

Somebody else wrote this about the claim that the quran contains advanced knowledge of the shape of the earth and the orbit of the sun.  I thought he really got to the crux of the matter.

    Quote
How can anyone suggest that not knowing "if the planet is flat or round", or "what is and is not orbiting, or if the sun is orbiting at all" to be nuanced and acurate, how then can one claim ambiguity is acurate or correct, when it can mean either and all combinations of what is being described..."spread out" can apply to any configuration or shape you can imagine, "all heavenly bodies are swimming" is not specific and remains acurate in not being able to be wrong no mater what is true, for example with this verse, even if the sun did orbit the moon and earth 22:33 would reamin correct and not make its believers question it, even though the total opposite is true.

Nothing can be argued as acurate or correct if its meaning can apply to results that too are incorrect and wrong,
ambiguity is only used when you do not know yourself what you are requiring to describe, incoherence is used as devine truth's proof - good luck with that.

So today is the crucial day to that Rosetta space craft... It  is a robotic spacecraft built and launched by the European Space Agency to perform a detailed study of comet   "67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko."  This is  brief Rosetta space craft history

    Quote
On March 2, 2004, Rosetta was launched into an orbit that enabled it to chase Earth around the Sun for about a year.

On March 4, 2005, Rosetta caught up with Earth and executed the first of its four gravity assists (three from Earth and one from Mars). This first gravity assist hurled Rosetta toward Mars for its meeting in 2007.

En route to Mars, Rosetta's instruments analyzed the collision between Deep Impact's impactor and comet Tempel-1 on July 4, 2005.

In February 2007, Rosetta executed a close flyby of Mars, which provided the gravity assist it needed to loop back toward Earth for a second flyby in November 2007.

In November 2007, Rosetta executed its second Earth flyby, gaining the gravity assist it needed to pass Mars' orbit and reach the asteroid belt.

On September 5, 2008, Rosetta passed within 1700 km of asteroid Steins, enabling its instruments to closely observe the flying rock.

In November, 2009, Rosetta swung back for a final boost from Earth’s gravity to return again to the asteroid belt.

On July 10, 2010, Rosetta flew within 3000 km of asteroid Lutetia, and again used its instruments to observe at close range this asteroid, ten times larger than Steins.

By May, 2011, Rosetta was coasting through areas in the outer solar system where the sun is almost a billion km away. At that distance, Rosetta’s solar panels are not able to gather much energy from the Sun, so the spacecraft shut down most electrical activities and will hibernate until comet C-G returns from its long transit in the outer solar system.

In January 2014, Rosetta will fire its engine to position itself next to comet C-G in May 2014 as it comes hurtling by. Rosetta will release the Philae for a controlled soft landing on the comet. The Philae will then transmit critical data from the comet’s surface for relay back to Earth. Philae will use harpoons to anchor itself to the comet.

After escorting comet C-G past its perihelion (closest point to the Sun), Rosetta will terminate its mission.

look at that impressive Bio-data of  Rosetta., 10 year travel to visit a small  island in Space.. just 4 kilometer diameter comet that was discovered in 1969. let us watch some tubes of Rosetta.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuhJN9ILsI8

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBfu-M02dTc

Is that not a  miracle of Miracles?  Now let us read SOME FOOLS who consider silly statements from Quran as Miracle that is related to comet..

And the BIGGST fool  in Islam who fools million of Muslim kids is this   Criminal   Adnan Oktar from Turkey who gathered internet information collectors   to put up that  miracles in Quran site. Look at these fools what they write about comets from flimsiest words from Quran  and   they write  this nonsense
    Quote
    Qur'anic Revelation

(Have you not seen how Allah drives the clouds, then gathers them, then makes them layers, you see the rain come forth from between them...) [24:43].

Here Allah Ta'ala is describing the formation of rain clouds and the rainfall from the clouds. This phenomenon is very common and known to the human being. But what is not known to the human beings are the truths that are found in the following ayat from the Noble Qur'an.
(...and caused water to descend from the heavens..)
    [Surah Baqara:22; Surah Ibrahim; 32; An-Nahl 10 & 65]

Now the question is why does Allah Ta'ala say that He causes the water to descend from the heavens, in contradiction to the An-Nur 24: 43 verse cited above. If carefully studied, the followi:ng verse makes no sense and the disbelievers would belittle the Noble Qur'an word of Allah.
(...He sends down from the heavens from the mountains therein of hail...)
    [24:43].

Hail is frozen rain or stones of frozen water. This ayah very clearly states that Allah sends down from the heavens mountains containing balls or comets of ice. According to this ayah, mountains of ice or comets of ice are sent down from the heavens (space) towards the earth. Until 1986 this phenomenon was not known to mankind. In 1988 this phenomenon was confirmed scientifically.

Those silly words are supposed to reveal Science of comets.. They didn't even translate that Arabic Quran properly.

These  high school drop outs collect that oil money of Arabia and  write .,  Islam is Allah , Quran  has miraculous scientific information hidden in it,  and Islam Encourages Scientific Inquiry etc ..etc.. rubbish all over internet.  Look at this nonsense from http://www.miraclesofthequran.com/mathematical_05.html

    HALLEYS COMET AND 76 YEARS

One of the greatest developments in modern astronomy is the discovery of Halleys Comet. The 18th-century scientist Edmund Halley discovered that the comet comes around every 76 years. With that discovery, Halley established that comets have astronomical orbits.

The name "Halley" by which the comet is known, appears in a most striking way in verse 76 of Surat al-Anam in the Quran:

When night covered him  he saw a star and said ;This is my Lord!; Then when it set he said, & I do not love what sets.; (Sura Anam, 76)

These idiots can not even read that verse 76 in  Sura Anam properly.,  It  is speaking about a STAR NOT COMET you fools..

My friend recently mentioned to me that IVF treatment is not allowed according to the quran!!???

I just said 'Oh really?' and ignored it. I couldn't even be bothered to ask for the verse or dignify it with a response.

I think he is referring to this:

"To God belongs the dominion of heavens and earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female (offspring) upon whom He wills, and bestows male (offspring) upon whom He wills. Or He bestows both males and females, and He leaves childless whom He wills. For He is All-Knowledgeable All-Powerful." (Qur'an 42:49-50)

So basically, if you can't have kids, TOUGH! It's cos allah made it that way.

well By saying that word "Mock them and move on"  I am not really trying to say mock and insult those folks who said/wrote/put together  Quran, hadith/ sunnah  some 1400 years ago.,   100 or 200 years after the death of alleged Islamic Prophet.  I really don't care what they wrote or even what they did., It is all history., Those books are books of their time and people are people of that time .

to your 5 year old., I kindled that book and now I am suggesting to all these fools In Islam who extract science  from Quran to start  reading  that book of children. There scientific exploration must start with that book. They will indeed learn real science from it. And Dave McKean  did a fantastic illustration job..  That book has  film material for these fools..  off course for children also.

We have continued to use copper for just that reason since we developed metalworking, for just the reason you have stated. China went as far as using chromium oxide on weapons. Weapons which we have found and are on display at various Chinese museums. Copper coatings were applied to wood in structures, as part of decorative ornaments and tools. Gold and silver were not as common so copper was the metal of choice like steel is now.

The fire spirit theme was an overplay on biblical depiction of fire as evil in the NT. Although in the OT fire was not seen as a representation of evil as god took the form of fire for Moses a few times. Also the Greek influence with the Hades theme, Persian fire religions, etc. Remember a common theme in Abrahamic religions is to demonize and incorporate neighboring religions in to it's themes of evil.

That is really stretching it, guess they didn't bother read what the article says or their own practice for that matter.

Dr Zakir Naik really disappoints me, because he is an amazingly intelligent man, and he is a man of science, but does not apply scientific method at all when doing his pieces on the relationship between the Qur'an and modern science. This is because he has very strong faith and you cannot apply scientific method to the Qur'an.

    Sunnah miracles!!

    Link

Wow, that's amazing. How could a man in 600 AD have known about the beneficial effects of sugary foods? It's not like the Ancient Egyptians used sugar for all kinds of remedies and even knew about diabetes. No, it must surely be a miraculous revelation from a god.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

And remember kids, it's only a miracle if Mo figured it out first, not if someone else did. No miracle for them. Not ever.

When I mention that to my relatives they react by denying that the ancient egyptians or other civilizations had any knowledge of the benefits of these foods.

But then again these are the same people that believe that the exorcisms performed by mullahs on TV talkshows are real.

There is no hope for people who just deny had evidence even when it is presented to them and just blindly follow religious authority.

In my opinion a life without curiosity is not a life worth living
