    Hey I'm thinking of installing a mod that removes images in quotes. Reason is that when people quote large images just to post a three word response, particularly when they are doing a nested quote that involves several images in the quoted posts, it makes for a lot of boredom and pointless scrolling.

    The code I'm thinking of replaces the images with a clickable link that says (Image removed from quote)
    Of course I can make it say anything I like. It could say (I like hiding pictures just to piss you off) bunny

    Wotcha reckon about this idea? The coding is a piece of cake. Can have it done in no time.

    ETA: Oh yeah, if you click the link it displays the image of course.

    By doing this don't you miss out part of the context in which something was said?

    If you decide against, I think "clicky for picky" or "image hidden" are fine

    Say for example, I made an outlandish comment to prove a point, and ended it with laughing icon.

    If was quoted by another user and other readers did not click on the "piccy button" (they prob wouldnt if it was part of a quote) - then it could get completely misinterpreted and even offence.

    I agree it can get unwieldy at times, how about forwarding the script behnd the image instead e.g.  :smiley :, :finmad :,   :thnkyu :   etc?

    It doesn't affect smileys. It only removes images like photos. Basically anything that would normally be inside img tags.

    Well yes, they are images but I'm not trying to hide smileys. Just large photos that have already been posted earlier. Make sense?

    How much disc space did that free up?  It must have worked wonders on Anti-Jihad's vintage cars post! If you want to go one step further, you could do it with all embedded images i.e. original non-forwarded ones, and just point to URLs, as well if you ever got desperate for space.

    Disc space isn't a concern because the images in question are hosted externally anyway. Photobucket, etc have their own servers that carry the load for anything hosted with them. It was only a matter of page space and time wasted in scrolling past stuff you've already looked at. Basically it's for the convenience of our members, not for server loads. Smiley

    I was able to do it so quickly because I'd tested it tonight on my local host. All I had to do then was download Subs.php and copy/paste a block of code before re-loading the file. Easy.

    He posted it a couple of hours ago when I was there anyway and I thought the idea was worth using. Just tweaked it a little bit to suit myself.

    Ok folks, I just threw another one in. Spotted it last night and it's kinda handy.

    This one sorts internal forum links. If you want to link to a topic or post or whatever just post the raw link and it will automatically be displayed as the thread or topic title. Cool, huh?

    It doesn't work with external links though. It's only for links to forum content.
