I missed a third of it dammit. It's on again tonight, BEEB ch4.
Looks like it's been a recapitulation thro' Mendel, Lemarc, etc. It's called 'What Darwin Missed'.

Didn't know you were based in UK - i'll try & watch tonight if its any good.  What did you think?

What Darwin Didn't KnowTuesday 27 January
    7:30pm - 9:00pm
    BBC4
Documentary which tells the story of evolution theory since Darwin postulated it in 1859. The theory caused a storm of controversy, from fellow scientists as well as religious types, who criticised it for being short on evidence and long on assertion. Darwin entrusted future generations to complete his work and prove the essential truth of his vision. Evolutionary biologist Armand Marie Leroi reveals how this came about, and argues that the next challenge is to try to predict what will evolve.

    It's 'What Darwin Didn't Know'

Excellent documentary on all the sciences, fossil discovery (and mathematics) that came after Darwin that was able then prove beyond doubt the fact of evolution.

It showed Darwin's foresight in his assumptions in Origins of Species which he could not prove or which seemed problematic, that could now be clearly demonstrated.

Knowing Islam is the only true religion we do not allow propagation of any other religion. How can we allow building of churches and temples when their religion is wrong? Thus we will not allow such wrong things in our countries. - Zakir Naik

Actually there were several details he got wrong. His overall idea was right though.

I remember (too many years ago, now) one of my zoology invertebrate profs (them , not him) writing a computer prog to generate all the possible helical spirals that could be evolved by gastropods. I don't know whether there was any real validity to the assumptions he must have written into it, but for what it's worth, he found 72 vacant spirals that had not been found in nature yet (extinct or extant),  because they had not been evolved  but, he figured, were available forms for future gastropod species.
I wonder if any new species have turned up, using any of those vacant slots, since he ran that one 35 years ago.
