    Quote
A TURKISH man who chanted ?Allah? mid-flight on a plane while walking towards the front carrying a rucksack has been jailed.

Hamdi Yazici, aged 41, of Kynaston Road, Bromley, frightened passengers on a Turkish Airlines Airbus 321 flying from Istanbul to Stansted Airport on October 12 last year.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard that Yazici, who was drunk, had to be held down by six cabin crew until the plane landed and police could take him away.

Judge Laura Harris said : ?I am quite sure it was extremely distressing and alarming for those passengers.

?They didn?t know what you were planning to do when you started to walk down to the front ? for all they knew you could have been a very dangerous man.?

Yazici admitted being drunk on a plane and was jailed for four months yesterday (Jan 7).

Apparently chanting allah when drunk will land you behind bars

I don't feel at all sorry for him.

Of course if this happened on a western airline we, me included, will think it is quite insensitive and mildly retarded on the part of the plane crew. But this happened on a Turkish airline, they can not be accused of insensitivity to, ot stupidity in regards to or lack of knowledge about islam.

To hell with him - he knew exactly what he was doing and the effect it would have on his fellow passengers .
If he'd done it on a middle eastern airline they probably would have flung him in jail anyway just for drinking alcohol .

It is a cliche, that every suicide b**ber will chant allah before he pops the people around him. That cliche can be ridiculed in the west playing race or victm cards.  But what card will you play on the Turks on this?

The modern, commonplace pronouncation is "Tanri" and nobody would pray to "Tengri" unless they are nostalgic about pre-Islamic Turkish religion. "Tanrı" is generally more "secular" as opposed to the Islamic "Allah." There are other words like "Huda" or "Rab" which are borrowed from other languages but they are mostly obsolete.

Huda and Rab sounds pretty Arabic to me...

It isn't, but providing a fair facsimile of a suicide bomber on an aircraft in mid flight is. What was he thinking!?
Are you taking the piss again? You wouldn't do that , would you?  yes

I never know how to take AJ sometimes. And I'd had a hard day, dammit, shovelling and barrowing a couple of tons of garden manure from A to B.

Well, I do let my wife have the odd drop - if she's really nice to me. Then again, it could be the other way around.
