     OP - November 21, 2008, 04:16 PM

Where are all the Uk ex-muslims in the blogosphere? I can only find American ones. Booh! I'm going to start one myself, I'm guessing it could be popular, so if I advertise I might make myself a bit of dough. Any advice on internet security, and how to stop hackers finding my IP address and tracking me down?

Also I might have my first ever drink tomorrow. And to celebrate I'll have another one (Just joking, don't want to be an alcoholic). Any recommendations? What's good for a starter?

Can someone move this to the lounge? Or does this constitute a rant?

Good luck with the blog - I think you will find it cathartic as well as getting your view heard by others.

I had one, but took it down because too many idiots left comments - I have a low idiot toleration threshold - so I warn you in advance that you too may get some nasty comments.

As for a drink - well as you are a former pupil at my school and I was your teacher, I will only say, be careful, particularly for those of us who have 'religiously' avoided alcohol in the past - it can be a rather tempting way of dealing with issues - by blotting them out. But I'm sure you are more sensible than that. Smiley

Looking forward to see what you have to say. I've also thought of starting a blog, and drinks Smiley. Although I think it pretensious of me to think anyone would care what I have to say. And still too shy yet to drink (it didn't appeal to me before Islam... it still doesn't really).

I hope you're not going to drink just because it's forbidden by Islam. That's pathetic.

I doubt you are but whatever you do, good lucks.  Afro

Oh, and if you get real assholes on there could you give me a few e-mail addresses. Ive got a new e-mail address but no-one to mess around. Thanks in advance.

Oh, I was never interested in drinking before I left Islam or after. So this is not a case of doing it because it's naughty, or wanting to drown out my problems. The reason I'm going to try it, is because if I carry on avoiding it, I'll have to always come up with excuses as to why I won't go to the pub with people. And I can't carry on avoiding the pub if I live in England. Here they live in the pub, and use it for every kind of social meeting.

I don't think I'd like the taste or the affect, so I'll only do it to fit in with colleagues and friends occasionally. What can you do?

When you're religious you have an excuse and people will respect that. But when you're not religious, you can't just say you don't like it when you haven't tried it, and you can't site health reasons because it's not as if you're being asked to binge drink.

Berbs, I'm a classicist so I was thinking of red wine.

Say you don't drink? The pressure wears off after a while and they stop offering. They don't demand reasons Smiley

Well red wine isn't all that nice, you have to like alcohol in order to grow a taste for red wine.  Red wine in a pub is even worse.

I like ladies drinks myself, which tia maria falls under.

The cheap muck is not nice, not nice at all and best avoided. But the good stuff is sublime. The moderate stuff is pretty good too but , if like me, you can't afford the really good stuff very often, when you do get to sample it you'll remember it forever.

If your going to start on drink, start with a shot of vodka with redbull! or even coke!... In redbull you'll not taste the vodka.. 5 shots of vodka and redbull in college was my first drink (one of the best days of my life) I thought I was amazing I was talking to girls and everything, girls I was shy of even approaching... And I realized I was really witty too and was easily able to hold a conversation with them. But that same night was hell when I was throwing up at home in the toilet.

I was only vehemently against it for religious reasons. Otherwise, I'm not against it, nor am I a desperate alcoholic. If it won't get me drunk or cause me ill health, what excuse do I have when you discount religious reasons? I can't be superstitious about these things. Let me try it tomorrow and I'll report back. If I don't like it then at least I have a reason to refuse it for taste and not superstition. If I do like it, I would have no problem refusing offers when I think I've had enough. I won't let people pressure me into doing anything i don't want to do. I just need to try it for myself before condemning it.

Tut, crack is illegal and not food stuff. People will always consume alcholic drinks as they're so prevalent in nature and cultures going a long way back. It perfectly possible to drink and not get drunk, let alone become an alcoholic. I presume you don't eat any meat if you'r e a vegetarian. If you're not a vegetarian, then what's wrong with pork?

Tut STFU you moron, you have sicker tendancies than any pork eater could ever have.  Go back to jacking off whilst you fantasise about whether to bone the woman who is killing you, or whine about the bees in your milkshake.

As for you M, what business is it of yours if people want to have a drink whilst they are out with their friends?

Agreed! Burbles, you 'orrible and barbaric menace to civilisation, I'll have you know that a good red plonk is damned nice, particularly with a nice, warming winter meal. This is the ideal time to try red plonk for you poor sods in the Arctic.  grin12

As SJ says, you just need to get a reasonably good one and I'll add that it's important to not drink to much of the stuff. Don't do more than a couple of glasses if you aren't used to it. Lovely stuff in moderation.
