Her father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is the prime minister of the UAE, and her mother, Houria Ahmed Lamara is from Algeria.

    Sheikha Latifa has two half-sisters with the same name.  She is the full sister of Sheikha Maitha (born 1980), Sheikha Shamsa (born 1981),  and Sheikh Majid (born 1987).

    Sheikha Latifa escaped from Dubai in late February 2018 and was forcibly returned from international waters near the Indian coast by a joint India–Emirates operation on 4 March 2018.  In December 2018, the Dubai royal court said that she was back in Dubai. She is believed to be forcibly medicated and held under order of her father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum...............

    Sheikha Latifa has not been seen in public since an attempted escape by sea in March 2018. She is seen crouched in a corner of what she says is a bathroom, in clips that the BBC said were filmed around a year after she was captured and returned.

    “I'm a hostage and this villa has been converted into a jail,” she says in one cellphone video.

    “There's five policemen outside and two policewomen inside the house. Every day I am worried about my safety and my life.”
