    the irritable guy who told the female panelist "oye you bloody shut up" is a true pakistani everyman.

    holding court and talking crap in a slow hushed voice (until interrupted) is not abnormal for many men.

    with regard to the march, the everyman got it right: it's mostly a protest raised by and for pak elites.

    in the last video, the anchor guy kashif argues that a patriarchal society won't accept female emancipation so the only solution is to convince men to be more permissive.

    the real solution is more casual female nudity - and dramas, tv adverts, etc deliver that daily into pakistani homes. desensitising conservative mindsets should only take a generation but I'd guess pakistan will still be a failed state in 2050.

    fixed mindsets are not just a problem of religion, it's the human condition. ideas compete to become the dominant orthodoxy. whether they are liberal or illiberal ideas is only secondary to that.
