In case the bet on an afterlife doesn't work out, there are scientists working on ways to extend this one. As I'm already halfway through mine, I wonder if I'll live long enough to benefit.

the damage-accumulation model of aging and its treatment.

    Quote from:
What are the causes of aging?

The mainstream position in the research community is that aging is caused by an accumulation of various forms of unrepaired cellular and tissue damage. This damage then spirals out to produce evolved responses that try to compensate for damage, malfunctions in biological systems that in turn cause further harm, and so on.

..............................biological decay does not lead to death., biological decay happens AFTER THE DEATH OF THE SPECIES.,  and that you are exploring in your folder as "Ageing Process of a species"., May be you are confused with those two words or wrongly worded Ageing Process  as
     biological decay.....................

well correct me if I am wrong in my view on those points...

decay/degeneration/damage - the unavoidable side effect of being alive according to some scientists.

disembowelment - the perpetual  punishment for disbelief according to some religionists.

either option isn't particulary attractive so perhaps it's better not to think about it too much? children/adults are inevitably indoctrinated into some world view so it may be futile to worry about the "truth" in the grand scheme of things.

well let me move that part of the posts on ageing here dear crumble....

the gene therapy angle at treating aging.

    Quote from:
In the Wyss study, a single administration of an adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy, which delivered combinations of three longevity-associated genes to mice, dramatically improved or completely reversed multiple age-related diseases, suggesting that a systems-level approach to treating such diseases could improve overall health and lifespan.

short version: anti-virals don't prevent cancer formation but do supress cancer drug resistance.

he's a bullshit artist talking in hushed tones to a moronic podcast host - that's my polite assessment.

at the moment, the only way i'm going to prolong my (healthy) lifespan is by doing some exercise. hopefully, some therapies to turn back the clock will be available in about 20yrs so the practical goal is to avoid succumbing to various lifestyle diseases before that point.

diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure: this bastard triangle of doom must be postponed for as long as possible.
