I guess imran still has ambitions to be a muslim leader rather than prime minister of a country. It didn't work for erdogan and it won't work for him.

    Quote from:
In the end, Khan's speech reached its destination — a political attack by a politician on India's crackdown in Muslim-majority Kashmir. En route, though, he delivered an appeal familiar to many Muslims but somewhat extraordinary for a global forum: a full-throated defense of Islam shaped for a Western audience's ears.

"It is important to understand this. The prophet (Muhammad) lives in our hearts," Khan said. "When he is ridiculed, when he's insulted, it hurts."

"We human beings understand one thing: The pain of the heart is far, far, far more hurtful than physical pain," he said in his speech, which pinballed between his dual identities — sports-star celebrity and his current role as head of state of the world's largest Islamic republic.

he's impressed by the likes of xi and modi? would he prefer to dispense with frontman imran and have bajwa be military-president? the appearance of democracy is important even if the reality is different. and india may be relatively progressive compared to pak but the bjp will fix that disparity in a few more years. he's right about the caliph/madrassa stuff and the foreign loans perpetuating army rule. the system is unlikely to change unless there is a catastrophe but the country is unlikely to survive something like that.

Madressah reforms in Pakistan  from Dawn today..

    Quote
THE debate over how to reform madressahs in Pakistan is not a new one. While seminaries in the country experienced explosive growth during the Zia years, producing the human raw material required for the anti-Soviet Afghan ‘jihad’, during the Musharraf era, and especially in the aftermath of 9/11, the establishment had second thoughts about these institutions. The various madressah reform campaigns over the years have had mixed success, with the clergy expectedly putting up resistance to any efforts by the state to encroach upon what they perceive to be their turf.

    Quote
However, the present government has also indicated that it wants to ‘mainstream’ the institutions. The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training says a directorate to oversee madressahs is almost ready, and that ulema are on board. A few days earlier, while meeting clerics, the prime minister had also remarked that ‘revolutionary’ reforms to overhaul seminaries were in the works.

If the government were to succeed in bringing madressahs into the mainstream, specifically in overseeing their curriculum and ensuring their registration, it would be a feat worth appreciating. However, this is easier said than done. For example, there are no concrete figures about how many seminaries — registered and otherwise — exist in the country; estimates range from 30,000 to 60,000. Moreover, ensuring that all sects and sub-sects that run madressahs are on board is another challenge.

    Quote
It would be wrong to say that all madressahs preach terror and extremism; many do not, but as the experiences of Lal Masjid as well as of the seminaries that helped produce sectarian and jihadi terrorists show, even a small unregulated minority is enough to challenge the writ of the state. What is more, there are relevant questions about what the students of madressahs will do after they graduate. Surely not all graduates can be absorbed as prayer leaders and Quran teachers. Therefore, these youngsters need life skills along with their religious education that can help them find gainful employment upon completing their courses at seminaries.

Madressah reform efforts, therefore, must focus on two key areas: eliminating extremist and sectarian content from the syllabus, and giving seminarians training that will help them find jobs in a wide variety of fields. While the state has indeed cracked down on seminaries linked to militant groups, more needs to be done to eliminate content that may fan extremism and sectarianism in the impressionable young minds that study in madressahs. Instead of focusing on the ‘othering’ of different sects and faiths, madressahs need to teach young pupils the compassion and civic duties that religion stresses.

    Quote
Moreover, cosmetic changes — such as introducing English and computer classes — will not do much unless madressah pupils are given vocational training that will make them employable in the job market. But most of all, the state needs to reform the public education system so that the majority of parents can send their wards to school

    .

well that is today's editorial from Dawn.,   Question is what reforms do these Madressah schools need?

moreover when Pakistan formed there were just  300  madrassh religious schools  now we have 30000 of them with some 4 to 5 million kids in them.. Why reform them? what is there to reform them??

These mullahs are  clearly preaching stuff from Quran,   hadith , Sunnah, Sira .. so-called  biography of Prophet of Islam , Muhammad.,  This is nth time since the birth of Pakistan every government comes up with some idea of  reforming these  madrassh religious schools

Can we reform what is there in Quran,   hadith , Sunnah, Sira??

well Allah knows the best  is the answer to that question

hi crumble ..what is your opinion on this

    Quote
True Islam Does Not Kill Blasphemers..  Mustafa Akyol .. New York Times

The Quran has 6,236 verses, none of which tell the faithful to stifle blasphemy by force.

the militant Islamists who want to kill all blasphemers, real or perceived, do not define Islam. But they do define a fanatic, ferocious, dangerous strain within Islam.

This strain has led to various attacks on freedom of expression, the bedrock of civilization, over the past three decades. The first one was the Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s infamous 1989 “death fatwa” calling for the execution of the author Salman Rushdie for his irreverent novel, “The Satanic Verses.” Then came the violent reactions to cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad published by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten in 2005. Terrorist attacks on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo followed. And among nations like Pakistan, Iran, Sudan and Saudi Arabia, Ms. Bibi is only one of the many victims of blasphemy laws.

Muslims who support such violent or oppressive responses to blasphemy are missing two important points. One is that it is them, not the blasphemers, who are defaming Islam, by presenting it as an immature tradition that has little room for civilized discourse. The second point is that their zealotry is not as religiously grounded as they think.

To see this, one must look at the Quran — the most fundamental and only undisputed source of Islam. Most notably, throughout all of its 6,236 verses, it never tells Muslims to silence blasphemy with force. It tells them only to respond with dignity.......

Gulalai Ismail's father sent on 14-day judicial remand   says news

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eK_H6qFy6Y

    Quote
Rights activist Gulalai Ismail's father, Professor Muhammad Ismail, was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand on Friday, a day after his daughter alleged that he had been picked up from outside the Peshawar High Court (PHC) by "men wearing Malitia (sic) dress".

Professor Muhammad's lawyer, Fazl Khan, told DawnNewsTV that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar had arrested his client after registering a First Information Report (FIR) against him under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016.

Khan said that his client was produced before judicial magistrate Naveedullah today, where the court rejected FIA's request for physical remand and instead sent him on a 14-day judicial remand. He added that they would soon file a bail application.

The lawyer said that on Thursday his client was at the PHC for another case.

"At around 4:30 pm he left the high court building and was picked up by some unknown men and shifted to [an] unknown location," Khan claimed.

Nawaz Sharif is reportedly at death’s door. .....Najam Sethi..   starts his TFT editorial

    Quote
Nawaz Sharif is reportedly at death’s door. He has been treated in a most inhumane and callous manner while in custody. This is a thrice-elected prime minister who voluntarily returned from London and went to prison. This is a man who was kept in jail while his wife was dying in London.

This is a man who has been convicted by the Supreme Court on the thread of a loose definition of “assets” in an unauthorized reference dictionary in the prejudicial context of “Sicilian Mafia”. This is a man who has been convicted by a judge who was blackmailed to get his conviction. This is a man who has resolutely resisted the various offerings of the Establishment to leave Pakistan and quit politics. His crime: he ran afoul of the Establishment by mistaking the elected office of prime minister for the font of power in Pakistan. Worse, he refused to learn and repent.Popular opinion holds that Imran Khan is personally responsible for Nawaz Sharif’s deteriorating health.

His government has tightened the screws by withdrawing all manner of decent prison and medical facilities befitting an ex-prime minister. Yet when a reporter recently confronted Mr Khan with this perception, “he threw his arms up with a bewildered look on his face: ‘Am I the doctor? Am I the court’?” The reporter added that shortly thereafter Mr Khan called up the Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and ordered him to arrange a meeting between Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Mariam. A day earlier, Mariam’s request for such a meeting had been denied by a NAB accountability court. Clearly, Mr Khan has answered his own questions.

Mr Khan also told reporters that there was a “foreign hand” behind Maulana Fazal ur Rahman’s long march and dharna. Incredibly enough, he pointed a finger at India! If he had hinted at another foreign power with which the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam and its leader has had traditional religious relations, he might have been less incredible. But how could he have summoned up the courage to bite the hand that feeds him?

The Maulana is still talking tough. But suspicions have arisen about his aims and objectives. It has been reported that he met Establishment Big Wigs recently and was told flatly that there would be no minus-Imran solution and that there might be other “minuses” amongst politicians. Curiously, opposition party activists are being arrested daily even as Mr Khan has belatedly allowed the dharma to proceed to Islamabad. The Establishment has reportedly told the Maulana that his dharna should be short and peaceful, otherwise it would do its “constitutional duty” to protect the “lawful” government. This is in sharp contrast to what it did during Mr Khan’s long drawn out dharna.

The fate of Nawaz Sharif hangs in the balance. Some “connected” journalists are claiming that both father and daughter will be allowed to go to London without an NRO because Nawaz is precariously ill and the Establishment doesn’t want his blood on their hands – they are still reaping the political backlash from the assassinations of two Bhuttos. The popular mood in the Punjab – the recruiting ground and bulwark of the Establishment – has palpably turned against it. This is unprecedented................

Imran khan talks everything right and he seems to be doing everything wrong ..  and I am pulling my hair to figure out the problem..

I guess his problem lies with his team and with his advisers.,  and it seems he does  not  understand  how governments run in modern days and he doesn't understand Islam and how Islamic politics works
