20 dead as huge truck bomb rocks Somali capital   Says news

    Quote
MOGADISHU: A truck bomb exploded outside a hotel at a busy junction in the Somali capital on Saturday causing widespread devastation that left at least 20 dead, with the toll likely to rise.

“Initial reports from emergency departments indicate more than 20 bodies picked up off the street and many more are under the wreckage of buildings destroyed by the blast,” said Ibrahim Mohamed, a senior police officer.

Government security official Mohamed Aden said that bombing took place in a busy part of the city.

“There was a huge blast caused by a truck loaded with explosives. It went off at the entrance of a hotel alongside the K5 intersection,” he said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the Al Qaeda aligned Shabaab carries out frequent suicide bombings in the capital and elsewhere as it fights to overthrow the internationally-backed government.................

Somalia's deadliest truck bomb attack kills 189 people

At least 189 people have been killed and more than 200 are injured after two bomb attacks struck Somalia's capital Mogadishu, hospital and police sources say.

A truck bomb exploded on Saturday outside a hotel at a busy intersection that is lined with government offices, restaurants and stalls, destroying buildings and setting cars on fire, police said.

Two hours later, a second blast struck the city's Medina district.

It is the deadliest ever attack to hit the nation, and the death toll is expected to rise.

Doctors are struggling to assist hundreds of wounded victims, with many burnt beyond recognition, according to reports.

"The hospital is overwhelmed by both dead and wounded," said Dr. Mohamed Yusuf, director of Medina hospital.

"We also received people whose limbs were cut away by the bomb. This is really horrendous, unlike any other time in the past."

A mother of four, Zainab Sharif, lost her husband.

"There's nothing I can say. We have lost everything," she said.............

well  what is  there to loose ?  when when allah/god that Heeeeeee.. himself is lost in the Islamic wilderness

    At least 230 dead http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-41621660

One western expert working with the Somali government said the bomb was aimed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that it was likely al-Shabaab had not anticipated the destruction it would cause.

“That it exploded next to a fuel tanker was just very, very bad luck,” the expert said.

Just bad luck that more people were killed than intended

    Quote
Al-Shabaab, which has been affiliated to al-Qaida since 2011, has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
However the organisation has a history of launching bomb attacks against civilian targets in Mogadishu, and is known to avoid claiming responsibility for operations which it believes may significantly damage its public image among ordinary Somalis.

    Something darkly comical about this.

Death toll has risen to 358:

    Quote
Somalia's information minister said Friday that the death toll has risen to 358 in the country's worst-ever attack.
Abdirahman Osman said 56 people are still missing from Saturday's truck bombing on a busy street in Mogadishu. An additional 228 people were wounded.
Thousands gathered at the attack site Friday to pray.
Somalia's government has blamed the bombing on the extremist group Shabab, which has not commented.
