Hey ya all

Hugh Hefner legacy is divided. Some people love to hate him while other see him as a champion of LGBT rights and civil rights advocate. He was pretty much ahead of his time in speaking up for LGBT rights and Black rights in America.

He was born in a conservative Methodist family in the US. From one of his interviews: "he (Hefner)
paints a picture of guilt-ridden Puritanism, an environment and lifestyle he rejected and that caused him to become the “pamphleteer” of the sexual revolution."

I quote him:
"Today, in every instance of sexual rights falling under attack, you’ll find legislation forced into place by people who practice discrimination disguised as religious freedom. Their goal is to dehumanize everyone’s sexuality and reduce us to using sex for the sole purpose of perpetuating our species. To that end, they will criminalize your entire sex life."

Guess we owe him a bit for normalizing sexuality. My personal belief is that no Muslim (or religious) society will change before women are allowed to wear whatever they want. Oppression of female sexuality gives the male oppressor a false sense of pride which is disastrous. A female showing a little cleavage is still looked on as loose in Muslim circles. Do we need more Islamic-themed eroticism/pornography?

Every person needs independence from oppressive systems that have developed over time. The nation state itself is one of those institutions, if you really think about it.

I'm not sure that objectifying is the same as normalising? I'm not criticising nudity or sexy clothing but they are unlikely to change muslim societies.

I'm happy to be proven wrong though - just waiting for a muslim version of Baywatch that involves slowmo bikinis rather than refugee boats.
