Religion has always targeted the weak minded, powerless, the fearful, the uncertain and the cowardly type.

How else do you think Judaism, Christianity Islam etc picked up steam in the first place?

It targeted the vast vast groups of poor (IE uneducated, destitute, quick to fall in line if fed) for its numbers

Well religion is one of humanity's first attempts at philosophy and science at a time when we were far less advanced than we are now of course. It's just strange how much of the world hasn't outgrown it by now.
