  • Convicted for joining ISIS. Salafist shows the "finger" in court:
     OP - June 22, 2016, 02:15 PM

A 24 year old man has been ruled guilty in court, for joining a terror organization.
(Punishment has not been decided yet)

During the proceedings, a know salafist had the nerve to take a selfie with the accused, flipping the finger while doing it:

(I think he qualifies as "baboon" in Yeez's terminology.)

What is the meaning of that finger?

It's a god sign. I see Christian athletes do it all the time as a minor sign of religious expression. Minor in the sense that major expressions can be against the rules as a form of showboating or unsportsmanlike. I see Muslim athletes do this as well after prostration was considered more than necessary.

For this guy I assume its the typical god sign as above but aligned with his beliefs (terror organization) Given the context it is probably showing his belief that whatever happens in man made law system is irrelevant as he is following God (via the terror organization interpretation) It shows his thinking and that of what he believes about his God. It is a form of pride often confused with piety.

ISIS seems to have co-opted this gesture and bringing it into disrepute, like the swastika was by the nazis.

    OK, thanks.

It makes a kind of perverted sense.

An update on Prince Charming in the first post.

He was recently sentenced to five months in jail for supporting terror and racism.
He also got a "suspended expulsion".
(IMHO he should have been expelled)

He as also been arrested for petty theft several times. I can't quite see how that fits with his high moral standpoints.

"The finger". It's the finger you point with when you do salah, or say the shahadah. It represents the belief in one god, or something like that. It's not like ISIS thugs reinvented it. Among the people I knew, and they were all kind of Muslims, it wasn't anything unusual...
