    This makes me so mad. Kid (14yrs) is a total electronics/robotics nut - brings little electronic project - home made digital clock - to his new high school to show teacher and gets arrested for making 'bomb'.

    The clock I made in middle school was not nearly this cool. Well, at the very least maybe this boy might be getting his first paycheck for his work, for having his civil liberties breached, maybe?

    Wow overreaction much? In middle-school a bunch of fellow students and the science teacher use to conduct experiments after hours. We actually blew up part of the lab closing it down for repairs for a few days. I would hate to see how that would be treated these days. This grinds my gears as it is not only stereotyping but also attacking his interest which could lead to a great future. These people seem oblivious to the idea to prevent radicalization people must be engaged, supported and become part of the community around them. Help the discover, develop and follow their own path. If you take away interests you restrict people which is a cause for turning to radicals. You alienate them.

    Looks like Ahmed is the winner on the long run - he now has standing invites/internship offers from Zuckerberg, twitter, Obama, NASA JPL, Col. Hadfield etc etc...

    I think a lot of the outrage from nerd-kind came from that feeling of 'I was that kid once'.

    The most obvious 'smug hijabi' who was acting as Ahmed's 'handler' in interviews was from CAIR - sounds like some of his family had had enough of them too by the end of it all.

    Well identity politics is bullshit too, in my own opinion, but for me racial issues have to be addressed in the US. This story to me, is very probably a manifestation of it.
