    No one in my family is muslim. I suppose you could say I come from a Roman Catholic background, but out of the five children my grandparents had, four of them are atheists and the other is more cultural/deist.     I think a large part of her remaining faith was a desire to be reunited with my granddad and uncle. Neither of them ever got over watching their son die of cancer.

    Yes, there certainly is. I am just trying to figure out if there is much that women get out of it considering that a lot of the rules are for the benefit of men.

    Oh, interesting, you weren't a Muslim then? I used to attend a Catholic school and would arrogantly tell myself how Christianity makes no sense and Islam was clearly the truth. They're starting to resemble each other more and more every day. I guess one thing that stood out which convinced me it wasn't true was the concept of the Holy Trinity.

    If there is a God, AGirlWithDoubts, then he clearly intended the world to be full of questions and doubts and a struggle both physical and spiritual. Because that's the reality of this world when you take a look around. That's simply the way it is!

    There are no easy answers and if there is an ultimate truth out there we for sure can't see it from our human perspective. After all my years of searching I am inclined to think that there is no "Eureka!" moment where absolute truth is discovered and the world can now stop turning because all we have to do is imitate.

    I think we just have to make our own meanings and truths using our heart and mind - as best we can - being honest to ourselves and others and showing love and empathy and charity to our fellow man.

    If there is a God, he couldn't possibly ask much more than that.

    Sounds a little trite - but hey! lol

    I not only reject the notion that Shari'ah is for all times & all places - I reject the very idea of a "Perfect Divine Law." All laws are human - and very fallible. They always have been and always will be.

    Had God truly wanted to send a detailed legal code on how to live our lives he could have done so quite easily without fuss or confusion. But he didn't. Because that is not the nature of the world he created. God clearly intended the world to be full of questions and doubts and a struggle both physical and spiritual. He intended it to be a world where we have to think for ourselves. Look around you! That's the reality of this world we live in. That's simply the way it is!

    There are no divine "A to Zs" - No handbook on: "How to do Everything Exactly Right!" - No easy answers! If there is an ultimate truth out there, we humans for sure can't see it from our perspective.

    After all my years of searching I am inclined to think that there is no "Eureka!" moment where absolute truth is discovered and the world can now stop turning because all we have to do is imitate.

    We just have to make our own meanings and truths using our heart and mind - as best we can - being honest to ourselves and others and showing love and empathy and charity to our fellow man.

    Just to add to what I said in my original post:

    I personally doubt the authenticity of ALL the traditional sources of information on Muhammad. I am inclined to think that we actually know very little about the historical Muhammad. However we are not dealing with history or science - we are dealing with people's beliefs and faith. In which case it doesn't really matter how historical any of it is (and as I say I doubt most of it anyway) - because the reality is this is what people use as the basis of their beliefs. I don't think the answer is to search for the "true historical accounts" because you will never find them. The answer is for us to realise that it is we ourselves who shape beliefs and we have the power to change traditional views.

     I read  few of your posts here  and also  visited your blog before Wink
    I am on a spiritual  journey  and to be honest i feel less happy the more i use my brain lol
    it seems like my thoughts change with time. Sometimes i say to my self islam needs to be reformed by people
    like your self and sometimes i just like not to think about religion at all.
    I am thinking about writing my life story, but then i am a bit lazy due to the fact that english is not my first language which makes it hard for me to even string a sentence without mistakes.
    By the way i was born in 1978 and grew up in algeria during the civil unrest period in one of the most badly effect regions.
    I feel like writing my thoughts and belief for the public to read is like having a tattoo that one may regret further ahead in life because of the changing of thoughts  in once mind.
    I was surprised to find that i shared a lot of your thoughts when i first read your comments/blog Smiley

    Maybe it's because as a Muslim I was taught that Catholics believe that God is three but also that God is one. Maybe it wasn't explained to me clearly but that was what I understood at the time and it left me confused.

    From a christian point of view it's easy to see the appeal of the story. God himself loves us so much he comes to Earth as flesh and blood, lives with us, eats with us, drinks with us, laughs with us, cries with us, and eventually dies for us. It's incredibly romantic.
