Was it fundamentally wrong to move that racist thread?

What HM said--but also, Whabbist, I will say that I do hope that we will make a genuine effort to connect with people who come here to discuss Islam with us and try to have a productive conversation. In those cases, absolutely: this should be one of the things we're best at and one of the things we're best for. I haven't had a chance to read callmeted's thread, but if he was jumped on or dismissed right off the bat, there's room for improvement. We should give it the old college try if we're going to respond to these posts.
I know many of us have grown weary and jaded by the things we hear from the sorts of folks who come to invite us back to Islam or Christianity or what have you, but if we're going to respond, let's all remember that this is a public forum and if we have good arguments and good counterarguments to make, we should present them in a somewhat respectable way. Maybe it'll fly over the OP's head, but it might mean something to a lurker.
Again, not sure what happened in ted's thread, have had no time to read it, so maybe this is totally irrelevant either way. But I do think we could be a bit more patient as a whole with people who come to debate with us. Even if they're total jerks--until the point that they start making the forum an uncomfortable place to be for the ex-Muslims it was made for.
