I heard about this in the British press  while ago. I sincerely hope they sort out these schools. I know from my own experience as a teacher in a Muslim school that parent power at these schools can seriously cross the line and it's always the most strict/puritanical that muscle their way to the front and start telling staff what to do.

Nobody comes out of this mess looking good, apart from the teachers who were hounded out of their jobs. The Tories who are talking about British values are responsible for instituting free schools that allows these Islamist minded people to take over schools. Labour and left wingers stick their heads in the sands, and in fact pushed 'multi-faith' multiculturalism.

Bottom line is we need to stand up and oppose faith schools in our society across the board which are going to stratify society in the long term, and stand up for SECULAR education and support secular teachers!

Lastly, there has been, and continues to be, ideologues who want to push Islam into curriculums and promote the 'Islamisation of education' that is in opposition to secularism. Rather than look away local councils have to understand this, everyone does, so they can be called out.

    Fucking islamist crackpots.

All of those teachers and staff should be fired immediately and have their teaching qualifications revoked.

Out of curiosity, how did you Brits end up with all these islamists anyways ?

Thankfully we don't have as many of them in North America.

At the same time, religious based schools are a fact of life here in North America, with varying levels of fundamentalism enforcing teaching.

    how fuck works without shit??

Odd isn't it? Not quite sure.

But we seem to have the opposite, too - I mean quite a few outspoken liberals such as Majid Nawaz and of course our own Maryam Namazie - also it was Brits that founded this forum and although it is for all nationalities, Brits outnumber them all. It is only recently that you Yanks have finally got round to getting such a forum up and running.

They say that onee of the reasons why Muslim's in Europe are said to be more radical than the Muslims in North America is because of the fact that faith in general is held in such high esteem in North America,  contrary to Europe. I remember Christopher Hitchens saying that once.

Can't speak for the U.S. but that's not the case for Canada.

Other than muslims, there aren't many religious people here. It's safe to assume a person is irreligious unless he/she states otherwise.

They had an empire which encompassed alot of these countries where radical Islam has taken hold.  That means that they get alot of immigration from those same countries.

    Partly true.

But there was also a policy in the 80s of giving refuge to Islamists from the Arab world, imagining they'd be good chaps and not bite the hand that fed and housed them.

And Somali Islamists are there largely because criteria for asylum were greatly broadened around the same time to encompass all who could escape failed states.

Its because for decades Islamists & jihadi / jihadi apologists have been active in the UK. Simple as that. For various reasons they went unopposed. Even today they don't get opposed appropriately.

It is an ideology purposefully promoted.

The main difference between muslims in the US and Western Europe is that muslims in the US are better of economically, better educated etc. They also have alot less of salafism, but MB brand of islamism is there. And I seem to remember that George Bush asked the Saudis to stop funding religious groups/literature.

    - Can't speak for the U.S. but that's not the case for Canada.
    - Other than muslims, there aren't many religious people here. It's safe to assume a person is irreligious unless he/she states otherwise.

    - We have our share of hardcore Muslims in Canada. Muslim parents have forced many schools in Toronto to provide designated prayer spaces on Fridays. Girls pray separately behind the boys just like in a mosque. Menstruating girls are not allowed to pray.
    - Few years ago Muslim students demanded dedicated prayer space in McGill University in Montreal. The university refused on the ground that it does not give such space to anyone, not even to Christians. But everyone is allowed to use the common chapel. Imam al-Hindi went berserk and accused university for racism.
    - Nobody brought to the attention of the eminent Imam, that by his definition Muslim countries, especially Saudi Arabia are the most racist.
