  • Introduction of me
     OP - November 09, 2014, 01:39 PM

Hi, I would like to introduce myself to the cemb community. My questioning in the religion started at a young age like 6-7 mainly because of the restrictions put in place like why cant i go to so and so’s birthday is it cause she’s christian and might poison me at a mcdonalds party like they poisoned prophet mohammed, so questions like that and the superstitious beliefs as black magic and poison and its a male centred religion.

I'm female, black and seen as a muslim by most (came out to family and friends and they thought i was going through a phase and the phase won’t end until I get married obviously to a muslim man whom I can’t relate to; so ‘confused’ is the best word to describe my public image at the moment. So guys to put a long story short i’m an atheist but living amongst muslims and they're everywhere I go so its really heartwarming for there to be a community like this that doesn't make you feel alone.

    Welcome!
It's hard and I'm in the same boat as you when you say you're confused. I got a lot of advice within hours of joining this community, they are really lovely. You're not alone, a lot of people here are in similar situations.

It's hard to come out, especially to family. All their lives they are taught that religion is the right way and they only want what's good for you, so they won't really understand your views or accept easily. Just remain patient until you're able to support yourself financially.

Wish you luck on your journey!

    Bad news is:
You cannot make people like, love, understand, validate,
accept, or be nice to you. You can't control them either.
    Good news is:
    It doesn't matter.

    Hi Mohan--mo,

    Welcome to CEMB parrot

That is some nasty indoctrination you have been abused with there Shocked Wonder if you parents actually believed in what they said? Huh?

It sounds like you need to break out of that Muslim bubble. Are there any chances of you casually hanging out with non-Muslims in your area?

There also seems to be meet-ups for ex-Muslims in London relatively often if you can get your foot in and if it isn't too much of a hassle to go there.

Happy to have you here Smiley

Welcome mohan--mo, most of us have a good idea of what you are going through and can sympathise. Cry

Are there no other young people where you live that understand? If not, then try to make some friends outside the muslim community, through work or study. It's very easy to start feeling trapped and getting depressed when you are surrounded by muslims. Just remember that you are the sane one  Wink
