    Knowing Usama Hasan and his parents very well I don't think he will leave islam publicly whilst they are alive as they are devout wahhabis/salafis and he doesn't wanna hurt/upset them. From the way he speaks now he seems to be  more Deistic/Pantheistic and refers to and talks alot about the beauty of nature/universe and god as a metaphor rather then the monotheistic abrahamic allah.

    Interestingly 2 of usamas brothers have left England and shaved their beards and live completely non-religious lives. Everything which indicates they are probably apostates. Being raised in a fundamentalist family creates lots of infidels.

    If only that were true.  My extended family is pretty fundamentalist even by muslim standards but I seem to be the only apostate in my entire family.   

    I would know if any one of them was a closet apostate. 

    ( After years in the closet you can easily see the signs that indicate someone doesn't really believe )

    I think it depends on so many things, both personality and other factors like the society and environment other than the fundamentalist family you come from. I know, and have heard of, so many devout parents who have had all, or some or even most, of their children become "non-practicing" Muslims. I think it is often used as a euphemism for apostasy, because it's better to be a non practicing Muslim than an outright apostate Roll Eyes

    Well for people that come from fundamentalist families (ex. salafi families) if you are a non practising muslim you keep getting hounded by your family for missing prayers, not going to the mosque, hanging out with non muslims. 

    In those all or nothing scenarios sometimes it's just easier to come out of the closet and openly leave islam to get them off your back.

    Did that essay have an explanation for theological/scientific errors like the Qur'an mistaking a rabbinical commentary in the Talmud, (If one kills another it would be the same as if he killed all of Israel/the world) for what God said? That and the shooting stars being mistaken as stars.

    I worked ((and work in Science)) for more than 30 years ., I WOULD NEVER CONSIDER A FELLOW AS SCIENTIST WHO SUPPORTS SUCH CLAIMS THAT  QURAN IS THE WORD OF GOD.,  AND  SAME THING GOES FOR ALL  OTHER  RELIGIOUS BOOKS & SAYINGS

    In fact I would consider such  she/he a  fool who happened to work in science for bread and butter., It is different if they are playing a taqiyya game on a dinner table with friends and family members.
    Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything   
    I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
