    Haven't really learnt Turkish, I've been meaning too haha. I've been to Turkey a few times which has helped me in memorising certain phrases.

    This is a good point. Hijab is meant to increase modesty, or so we're led to believe. But in many cases it actually makes the lady look more attractive. Perhaps it's because the focus is taken away from other parts of the body so all we can see is the face, so we notice the natural beauty, especially when no make up is worn which is also ironic, as make up is also not allowed. Just another thing that adds to my doubt that Islam can be a divine creation.

    nothing specific comes to mind, apart from the general ramblings of a well meaning friend who wants me to try seeing things from a more sufi perspective. I tentatively agreed to meeting up with a mutual acquaintance to learn a bit about the roots of sufism, though it's purely to see how their view of islam differs from that which I'm familiar with. I suspect it will only reinforce my certainty that the many sects of islam are just different interpretations of different peoples understanding of another man made religion.

    Hello yeezevee, good to hear from you!.. no I cannot give any examples of divine creation; neither can I talk about a framework for defining or identifying what would be divine, as I don't think I believe (and probably never really did) in any form of god or God. I was using the phrase figuratively.

    Where I've lived, I've seen far more hijabis wearing makeup than ones who wear nothing. If I see a hijabi with no makeup on, not even concealer or foundation, I notice it. It's way more rare in my observation.

    lua, yes I totally agree. However the irony is that makeup, whilst intended to increase superficial beauty, hides the natural beauty. Therefore in extreme cases, makeup in itself could be considered a form of hijab! In a linguistic sense of course, not a shari'ah sense.
