    This is my third adult Christmas. I am not sure I like being in charge of it, and not sure I like it in general. There is just a lot of presents involved, I can barely keep track. Maybe if I were not burnt out on religion, I would be more enthusiastic. Snowflakes are cool, though.

    Being from England Christmas was never religious for me. It honestly never entered into it. It's actually the same for a lot of Europe. It's mostly cultural/traditional and has been secularised to the point the majority of people have absolutely no problem celebrating it in a non religious way.

    I have come to loathe xmas. 

    The only religion it worships, is the religion of money.  Spend way too much of it on gifts, decorations, and food I certainly won't eat.

    Plus, much as I was raised a muslim, it would appear I feel more depression over a lonely xmas, than I ever have about failed eids. 

    I'm just glad it's almost over.

    Christmas is very non-christian and many "purist" christians condemn the celebration. It's just pagan ritual that was christianized in order to create easier conversion path for the pagans. The modern christmas is nothing but a money maker made by large companies. I have no problem with the pagan/christian christmas, but I hate the western modern christmas. It's so fake and so cheesy. And also, what's so great about Santa? He is fat guy in red who works once a year and sends his helpers to spy on little children. Is that something we want to praise?

     In my home country many people visit church only once in a year and it is in christmas. There surely are some beautiful songs and chants, so I guess that's why many people go even when they don't believe that stuff.

    This is nice chant to me, brings good memories from childhood.

    Never celebrated it, but my family sent my son some gifts. Surrounding area sent him some too. So made him some cookies and I'm cooking dinner. Nice and simple. Never understood why people go crazy instead of keeping it nice and simple.

    By the way, does anyone know why most people celebrate christmas 25th of December, but in Finland we celebrate it 24th?

    Hi Siunaa Maailmaa I do misunderstand often but not cultural festivals that are originated from religions..  Not only those birds are beautiful .. they are happy and content..

    well Mexicans start Christmas festivities from Dec12th..  but it will be interesting to look in in to the origins of Christmas..  I know  a great person from Finland  Prof.   Bo G. Malmström  ., I think he moved to Sweden. Any ways please write about Christmas from your neck of the world And you may be interested in reading this thread

    I heard something, a long time ago, about midwinter feasts and sacrificing a person who had been crowned for a temporary short term. I suppose that would be killing someone, each year.

    It seems to have some pagan roots - a day ended when the sun set. Thus a new day was born - at least numerically. Same with the the Jewish calendar which doesn't divide days by midnight - a new day starts when stars are visible at night.

    So for some celebrations we are a bit ahead here in the Nordics.

    Also, early gift-giving pacifies the Vikings so we don't invade the isles west of here to steal their gifts.

    Copts and Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on the 6th of January. Armenian Christians later. Because of differences in the Julian and Gregorian calendars.

    Finland is not Catholic/Protestant. We don't have fasting and besides that, we are not even christians but seculars.
    In my class of 30 there were two christians and they were immigrants. So no, we don't fast or have anything religious 24th of December besides going to church and even that is very unreligious. Some pastors are atheists Cheesy
