UK Islamic TV channel fined for inciting violence

LONDON: Britain's broadcasting watchdog on Wednesday fined an Islamic television channel £85,000 ($133,000, 99,700 euros) after a presenter said anyone disrespecting the Prophet Mohammed should be killed.. Ofcom ruled that Noor TV, which broadcasts on Sky, had breached broadcasting codes by inciting violence during a program aired on May 3 last year.

The watchdog said the size of the fine reflected the seriousness of the channel's transgression, but stopped short of revoking its licence. Presenter Allama Muhammad Farooq Nizami was hosting a phone-in when he was asked what the punishment was for anyone showing disrespect for Prophet Mohammed.

“There is no disagreement about this,” he replied. “There is absolutely no doubt about it that the punishment for the person who shows disrespect for the Prophet is death.”

Ofcom ruled that the channel, which is owned by Al Ehya Digital Television, had transmitted “material likely to encourage or incite the commission of crime” and had failed to “exercise the proper degree of responsibility with respect to the content of programmes which are religious programmes.”

next time clean shave the rascal and expel him from Islam.. and no freebies from Tax payers money, make sure he pays the taxes and put him to work to clean the gutters of London..

Ofcom should of taken their licence. There is NO EXCUSE for encouraging islamist ideology.

About bloody time...this sort of extremism goes on for too long. I guarantee you that in a non-Muslim public environment that this individual would've done a 'Naik'd' it and said something to extent of 'anyone disrespecting Muhammad would need to be reeducated or be bought to court to explain themselves'. It amazes how some Dawa'ists such as Tzortzis and Naik pander to the Musim audiance with extremism and then U-turn when it comes to a mixed audiance with 'moderate' views.

Expose the scum and hold them accountable.

The station was fined £85,000 for broadcasting such a statement but should not the individual face other charges under the Hate Speech Act or Incitement to Violence? As I recall there are certain examples of young kids sent to jail for a silly statement they made over social networking sites. This guy made potential death threats to MOST of the British population who do not hold Mo in high regard.

Jail him or expel him from the country. Send the scum a message that we will not surrender our rights and liberties just to massage your ego and bloodust!
