  • Hi everyone!
     OP - May 02, 2013, 11:25 PM

You can call me "Ally." It's a fake name because I don't to take any risks by mentioning either my legal male name or my female name.

I'm an ex-Muslim who left Islam at the age of 16 - two years ago. I became sick of its teachings of hatred and violence. I went from being a zealous Muslim apologist to a pro-LGBT feminist anarchist - where I currently am today.

What I find especially problematic about Islam is its sexism and hatred for non-Muslims. I also think that the veracity of Islam rests on completely unjustified assumptions. I like to summarize that position by saying that the only way to accept Islam as true is to appeal to absurdity and, in the case of using those so-called scientific miracles, completely misunderstand the scientific method.

Someone I know suggested that I join this community to get to know some people, receive support, etc. That's because my current situation is rather uncommon; I'm a transgender woman who has yet to transition, and I haven't come out to any family member besides my mother, my step-father, and my two older siblings.

The main reason I have yet to transition is that I fear the repercussions of coming out to my Muslim family members. They hate anyone LGBT.  And I fear great hostility from my Muslim family members once they learn that I am transgender and non-Muslim. I know at least a few elders in my family who unapologetically support the death penalty for apostasy. I wish I didn't have to fear the worst from family members I still love and care about (despite their awful beliefs), but that's how things are for me.

That's all I have to say about myself. I hope I chose the right place.
