  • Urgent Action Required: Abdel Aziz Mohamed Al-Baz Imprisoned in Kuwait
     OP - January 19, 2013, 04:48 AM

Abdel Aziz Mohamed Al-Baz, a 27 year old Egyptian atheist blogger has been arrested and charged with blasphemy in Kuwait. Al-Baz, also known as Ben Baz, has been held in the Central Prison of Kuwait City since January 2nd and is in real danger. Last year there were moves in the national parliament to introduce execution as a punishment for blasphemy and one man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for allegedly blasphemous messages on Twitter.

Freedom of conscience, expression and speech are fundamental human rights. Ben Al-Baz has caused no harm to anyone and his
persecution for nothing more than simply expressing his opinions is completely unacceptable.

The CEMB condemns the Kuwaiti government’s imprisonment of Al-Baz and calls on the government to immediately and unconditionally release him and all those being held on blasphemy charges.

    What Can You Do?

    1) Email: The Kuwait Ministry of Justice (info@moj.gov.kw) and Higher Commission for Human Rights (hrhc@moj.gov.kw)

Has anyone from here actually done this? If so could they post what they wrote here in the thread?

I would send an email myself but I am not sure what tone to take, it seems that any email to the Kuwaiti government would have to be very tactful and polite to have any positive impact....

You'd be better off emailing human rights organizations, the United Nations and the government of which ever country your residing in to put international political pressure on the Kuwaiti government.

Words from a random person are useless when it comes to dealing with Islamic theocrats. They'll only bother listening to powerful nations or any other organizations which have considerable international influence.

In my opinion a life without curiosity is not a life worth living

Aziz Albaz is a blogger who is since 31 Dec. 2012 in prison in Kuwait. His crime is atheism. No lawyer wants to defend him. Not even Kuwait's human rights organizations want to help him. After 40 days he will be send to Egypt to get harder punishment, maybe killed of islamists or his own family because he has left Islam. Can you help him to save his life?

Petition is to be delivered to Amnesty, Red Cross, and Human Rights Watch, please sign:

    Signed.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
