    It seems he is costing the UK taxpayer a fortune, and I was wondering if it might be haram for a Muslim to claim kaffir social security benefits.

    Under British Law there are bans on members of religious orders claiming benefits, but there are exemptions, for example

    i When a person withdraws herself, as the claimant did, from ordinary human affairs, she must be regarded as having authorised the person, or persons, who normally conduct, on her behalf, any necessary contacts with the outside world to deal with her affairs. Thus when the prioress of the convert of which the claimant was a member made a late claim for sickness benefit on the claimant’s behalf it was not accepted that good cause for the delay has been shown and the claimant was disqualified for receiving the benefit. See also R(P) 2/85.

    ii A Jewish rabbi who was forbidden by the law of his faith to engage in any occupation on certain days of the Jewish Passover was held to have had good cause for making a late claim for unemployment benefit for the first and second days of the Passover.

    But what of the converse?  If someone is a confessing Muslim and has submitted to Allah, and is a member of the ummah, is it not for the Muslim community to support him and his family? 

    Surely it is wrong to be dependent on kaffirs?

    Of course its wrong! There is no reason while he should be taken from a country which he despises. However as a muslim he probably believes in taking from the kuffar and keeping the money within Islam.

    Is there a need for an amendment to British law to the effect that if it is possible to receive support from one's religious community, and you are expounding beliefs that do not support the laws of where you live, you are perfectly free to expound those views but we are not paying you anything, and we will charge you for education, health etc?
