    I don't see an option to upload pics directly from my PC in the 'FORUM PROFILE ' menu. I just see one option where I have to give a web url for the avatar upload.

    The reason this wasn't generally available to all was because of security issues, however the staff have discussed this and we have now altered the permissions so that all members with Pub Regular status should now be able to upload their own avatars.  yes   Afro

    I thought "Pub Regular" was just the title that all members defaulted to if they didn't choose "Ex-Muslim" as their title.  Huh?

    Let me see if I have this right - I cannot upload an avatar from my own files unless I have over 800 posts?

    Yes. You can't upload anything at all (attachments either) until you have 800 posts. You can link to external files though.

    No it's been like that for ages. We didn't used to allow anyone at all to upload stuff, which saved us from a very nasty hack a while back. That hack took over the server by uploading an avatar that had php hidden inside the image code.

    After that exploit was patched, we relaxed the restrictions so that people with over 800 posts could upload images. We figure if they're still here then, they're probably ok.

    By the way, the reason your avatar is not showing is because you haven't specified a valid image url in your profile settings. You've entered some url to a blog post, AFAICT. If you enter the direct link to any online image it should work.
