Nigerian Killing continues_Islamist Sect Kill at Least 30  says  news

KANO, Nigeria (Agence France-Presse) — Gunmen killed seven people in the northeastern city of Potiskum on Saturday, raising the death toll to at least 30 during three days of violence, the police and residents said.  The gunmen, suspected of being members of the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram, shot and killed seven people, including a retired customs chief and his son, whose house was looted before it was burned early on Saturday, the police and neighbors said.

Potiskum, the commercial hub of Yobe State, has been hit hard by near daily acts of violence in recent weeks. Before Saturday’s shootings, attacks by people thought to be Islamists that began on Thursday had already left at least 23 other people dead and several buildings destroyed.  "We now have a total of 20 bodies brought in yesterday from the attacks of the previous night. Initially 11 bodies were brought and nine more were received later," a nurse who asked not to be named told Agence France Presse (AFP).

"Most of them have gunshot wounds but some had their throat slit. The bodies included that of a police sergeant and a prison warder," he said. Residents said the toll could be higher as some relations had taken some bodies from the streets for burial. ..... In Maiduguri, also in the northeast and the base of the Islamist sect, fires set off by homemade bombs burned down 11 roadside shops, the military said in a statement. A Chinese construction worker was also shot and killed in the city on Friday, a state official confirmed.

Late Friday, the military said it had arrested a member of Boko Haram at the house of a Nigerian senator in Maiduguri, but it did not provide further details.

Your conclusion reveals your lack of knowledge on the social and political aspect of Northern Nigeria,it would have been best to just leave the report than add a binary conclusion which is erroneous.

You indeed right Cato., My comments are my own conclusion and could go wrong., But that    social and political dimensions of northern Nigeria   is a perfect subject for people like you that are connected to educate others. My conclusions are fairly straightforward ..

where ever a nation goes beyond 30% of Muslim population there will be always tensions and political fights. Politicians exploiting communal differences and that leads to the problems we see everywhere around the globe.

so yes.. there is more to read and more to learn than what I know..., What I know is this., since the 2nd world war.. The spread of Islam in African continent is directly related to Muslim  folks that are migrated from Indian subcontinent.. .. These folks are/were very dedicated to the cause of Islam.  off course many of them do not/did not  understand the ramifications of islamofication of local population.

History of Islamic influence in West Africa dates back since 1200s through Arab trade and visit of scholars. Initially it was embraced by the feudal aristocrats before it trickle down to commoners who were pagan.

Back to killing Children in that rich land "Nigeria".. The news says Gunmen kill 30 in Nigeria school attack

off course it is done by that heroes of Islam    Boko Harami rogues

    Quote
POTISKUM: Militants attacked a boarding school before dawn Saturday, dousing a dormitory in fuel and lighting it ablaze as students slept, survivors said. At least 30 people were killed in the deadliest attack yet on schools in Nigeria's embattled northeast.

Authorities blamed the violence on Boko Haram, a radical group whose name means ''Western education is sacrilege.'' The militants have been behind a series of recent attacks on schools in the region, including one in which gunmen opened fire on children taking exams in a classroom.

''We were sleeping when we heard gunshots. When I woke up, someone was pointing a gun at me,'' Musa Hassan, 15, told The Associated Press of the assault on Government Secondary School in Mamudo village in Yobe state. He put his arm up in defense, and suffered a gunshot that blew off all four fingers on his right hand, the one he uses to write. His life was spared when the militants moved on after shooting him.

Hassan recalled how the gunmen came armed with jerry cans of fuel that they used to torch the school's administrative block and one of the dormitories. ''They burned the children alive,'' he said, the horror showing in his wide eyes.

He and teachers at the morgue said dozens of children from the 1,200-student school escaped into the bush but have not been seen since. On Saturday, at the morgue of Potiskum General Hospital, a few miles kilometers from the scene of the attack, parents screamed in anguish as they attempted to identify the victims, many charred beyond recognition.

Some parents do not know if their children survived or died. Farmer Malam Abdullahi found the bodies of two of his sons, a 10-year-old shot in the back as he apparently tried to run away, and a 12-year-old shot in the chest.

''The gunmen are attacking schools and there is no protection for students despite all the soldiers,'' he said as he wept over the two corpses. He said he is withdrawing his three remaining sons from another school. Militants from Boko Haram and breakaway groups have killed more than 1,600 civilians in suicide bombings and other attacks since 2010, according to an Associated Press count. Saturday's attack killed 29 students and English teacher Mohammed Musa, who was shot in the chest, according to another teacher, Ibrahim Abdu.

Nigerian extremists slit throats of 44 villagers   says news

    Quote
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria: Suspected Islamist extremists killed at least 44 villagers in continuing attacks in an uprising in northeast Nigeria, said an official of the National Emergency Management Agency. He said the attackers hit Dumba village in Borno state before dawn Tuesday and slit their victims' throats — a new strategy, since gunfire attracts security forces.

He added that they gouged out the eyes of some of the victims who had survived. The official spoke Saturday on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to give information to reporters. The highly sensitive conditions in the area make it dangerous to reveal identities. Dumba is near the fishing village of Baga where security forces in March gunned down 187 civilians in retaliation to an attack by extremists. It is difficult to get information from the area under a state of emergency, with cell phone and Internet service cut.

Borno is one of three northeastern states under a state of emergency declared May 14 to crack down on the Boko Haram terrorist network. Boko Haram, whose name means 'Western Education is forbidden', has committed at least 168 acts of violence against Christians in 2012 alone. Since 2010, more than 1,700 people have been killed in attacks by Islamist insurgents, according to an Associated Press coun

Boko Harami Islamic heroes kill Nigerian college students-40 killed says news

    Quote
DAMATURU: Boko Haram gunmen on Sunday opened fire in a college dormitory in northeast Nigeria as the students slept, killing 40, in the latest massacre blamed on the insurgents. All of the dead were students of the College of Agriculture in the town of Gujba in Yobe state, the area governor said in a statement.

The early morning attack was carried out by “Boko Haram terrorists who went into the school and opened fire on students” while they were sleeping, the military spokesman in Yobe, Lazarus Eli, told AFP. Salamu Ibrahim, a 23-year-old student at the college, said dozens of gunmen took part in the killing, bursting into dorm rooms and firing indiscriminately in the dark.

“The attackers went berserk,” he told AFP in Yobe's capital Damaturu, some 30 kilometres (18 miles) away, where he fled along with hundreds of other students. “They were fully armed with sophisticated rifles, and improvised explosives,” and razed several college buildings after leaving the dorms, he said. The office of Yobe Governor Ibrahim Gaidam put the death toll at 40, with four others injured. At the Damaturu Specialist Hospital, hundreds of relatives of those who attended the college had “thronged” to see whether their families members were among the dead, said a hospital official who requested anonymity.

The European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton called the slaughter “horrific”.

Yobe has seen a spate of attacks on schools and universities, all blamed on Boko Haram, an extremist group that has killed hundreds in its four-year insurgency. The name Boko Haram, loosely translated, means “Western education is forbidden”, and the group has become notorious for slaughtering students. In July in the town of Mamudo in Yobe, Islamists threw explosives and sprayed gunfire into dormitories in the middle of the night, killing 41 students.

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen shot dead seven secondary school students and two teachers in Damaturu in June. Military offensive criticised The military has described the recent school attacks as a sign of desperation by the Islamists, claiming that they lack the capacity to strike anything but soft targets. Defence officials have said that an offensive launched against Boko Haram in mid-May has decimated the group and scattered its fighters across remote parts of the northeast, the insurgents' traditional stronghold.

While many of the recent attacks have occurred in more remote areas, often targeting defenceless civilians, the unchecked killing has cast doubt on the success of the military campaign. “Although there is increase in troop movement and... more military hardware in the northeast, people were yet to see the kind of action on the ground that effectively nips criminal and terrorist activities in the bud,” the Yobe governor's statement said.

Scores have been killed this month, including in the northeastern town of Benisheik, where at least 142 people were slaughtered by Boko Haram fighters who came disguised as soldiers, set up checkpoints and fired on motorists and bystanders. Some of the recent violence has targeted vigilante groups which have formed to help the military. The northeast remains under a state of emergency imposed on May 14.

The phone network has been switched off in much of the northeast since the emergency measures were declared, a move the military said would help prevent the Islamists from coordinating attacks. Some have suggested that the lack of phone service has prevented civilians from sounding the alarm during attacks. Boko Haram has said it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria's mainly Muslim north, but the group is believed to be made up of different factions with varying aims.

The group has attacked churches, mosques, newspaper offices, the security forces, politicians and a UN building, among other targets. According to an estimate made earlier this year, the conflict has cost more than 3,600 lives, including killings by the security forces. The current figure is likely much higher. Nigeria is Africa's most populous country and top oil producer, roughly divided between the mainly Muslim north and a predominately Christian south.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
