Religion and Politics  Hizb ut Tehrir

Hizb ut-Tahrir (Arabic: حزب التحرير‎ Ḥizb at-Taḥrīr; English: Party of Liberation) is an international Sunni pan-Islamic political organisation. They are commonly associated with the goal of all Muslim countries unifying as an Islamic state or caliphate ruled by Islamic law and with a caliph head of state elected by Muslims.

The organization was founded in 1953 in Jerusalem by Taqiuddin al-Nabhani, an Islamic scholar and appeals court judge (Qadi)  from the Palestinian village of Ijzim. Since then Hizb ut-Tahrir has spread to more than 40 countries, and by one estimate has about one million members. Hizb ut-Tahrir is very active in the west, particularly in the United Kingdom, and is also active in several Arab and Central Asian countries, despite being banned by some governments. The group also has a growing presence in North America, known as Hizb ut-tahrir America, or HTA.

Hizb ut-Tahrir believes a caliphate would provide stability and security to both Muslims and Non-Muslims in the predominantly Muslim regions of the world. The party promotes a detailed program for institution of a caliphate that would establish Shariah and carry "the Da'wah of Islam" to the world.  Hizb ut-Tahrir is also strongly anti-Zionist and calls for Israel, which it calls an "illegal entity," to be dismantled.

Some observers believe Hizb ut-Tahrir is the victim of false allegations of connections to terrorism, pointing out that the organization explicitly commits itself to non-violence.  Other thinkers postulate that the group's opposition to violence is tactical and temporary, and that it works to create a politically charged atmosphere possiby conducive to violence.

What is their position on Spain? I think I remember reading somewhere that they want Spain and the Balkans to be under the Caliphate because it was historically.

Hizb ut Tahrir are dipshits, they just want to create a Middle Eastern soviet style superstate. Their just socialist Islamic radicals if you ask me.

I've heard it brought up once or twice, but they don't bring it up in front of Europeans much for obvious reasons.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Weren't some of the early Caliphs "elected" by some sort of Islamic Council? Not a true democracy in the modern sense of the word with universal suffrage, but neither did the Ancient Greeks have universal suffrage and they are considered the fathers of Democracy. I am sure Muslims could easily argue that democracy is compatible with Islam.

But anyway it is pretty scary that these guys want to create a massive dictatorship across a huge section of the world, inevitably controlling a massive proportion of the world's oil reserves.

Hypohetically, if they were to achieve this goal, then I am sure the next item on their agenda would be world domination....

Democracy my arse, it was never democracy and if the Khilafah is re-established it still would not be democracy, nothing like it.

Did you know that HT's stance on who can become the Khalifah, that the person has to be an Arab male Muslim. Doesn't matter if the best muslim for the job is Pakistani, or Indian, or Indonesian, or Iranian, or Turkish, or Nigerian, or someone of white descent, if he's not Arab he's not worthy for the job.

Unless you've got different information, I believe you are talking about a shura.
A shura is a consultation, where the leader refers to the council - and follows [or not] the opinion of the shura.
Not exactly democracy - even the " 2 wolves and 1 sheep" variety...

Weren't some of the early Caliphs "elected" by some sort of Islamic Council? .................

what council  and what elections Tonyt??   those alleged rightly guided Caliphs were Mr.Pbuh's father in-laws and son in-laws..

    Quote
1- Abu Bakr (632-634): Abu Bakr, Muhammad's father-in-law and the father of Muhammad's most beloved wife, 'Aisha, was with Muhammad from the very beginning. Abu Bakr was Aisha's father who gave away his 9 year old child to 52 year old Prophet of Islam in a marriage.  After Mohammed’s death, the leadership of the Umma (Muslim Community) was taken up by Abu Bakr, who took the title Caliph. This title, which means "successor," indicates that he was the successor to the Prophet of God. This means that he claimed all Mohammed’s political and administrative power, and that he became the religious leader. Arabia is unified under Islam by 634.

2- Umar (634-644):  Hafsa bint Umar, daughter of Umar (‘Umar bin Al-Khattab), was widowed at battle of Badr when her husband Khunais ibn Hudhaifa was killed in action. Muhammad married her in 3 A.H./625 C.E.  Umar, the second Caliph, lead the Muslim troops to conquer all of Arabia, and then north into Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Iran, as well as westward into Egypt and North Africa. He was murdered  in 644.

3- Uthman (644-656): The third Caliph, was elected over the strong contesting by Mohammed’s cousin and son-in-law Ali. Uthman finalizes the Quran Although a pious and humble man, he was a weak ruler and too much influenced by his relatives of the Umayyad clan of the Koreish tribe (who had been "late" converts to Islam). Finally, his supporters turned on him and he was killed by a mob of Muslims in 656. . Uthman thus became the fourth male to convert to Islam, after Ali, Zayd and Abu Bakr. His conversion to Islam angered his clan, the Banu Ummayyah, who strongly opposed Muhammad's teachings.[4] The only two people who supported Uthman's decision were Saadi, one of his maternal aunts, and Umm Kulthum, who was his stepsister and who had also converted to Islam. Because of his conversion to Islam, Uthman's wives deserted him, and he subsequently divorced them. Muhammad then asked Uthman to marry his daughter Ruqayyah bint Muhammad.

4- Ali (656-661): Ali was the husband of Prophets beloved daughter Fatima.,  Ali became the last Rightly Guided Caliph in 656. Of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs, Ali was the only one who was a close blood relative of Mohammed. From Mohammed’s death, his followers thought that the succession should not be decided by election, but by birth. They thought that the ability to communicate with Allah was passed on in this way.

These followers were known as the "Shia" ("party") of Ali, formed the basis of what later became Shiite Islam. When Ali was elected Caliph, they believed that their views would finally dominate, but after Ali’s assassination, the leadership of the umma moved to the Umayyads.

Ali was assassinated in 661 by Muawiyah, the founder of the Umayyad Dynasty, who took his place as caliph. Muslim loyalties split, but most remained Sunnis, loyal to the Umayyad Dynasty (about 80% of Muslims). Ali's descendant led the splinter group, the Shi'ites (about 10% of Muslims). Islam Religion

HT considers itself to be following the sunnah and seerah of Mo and the Khulaafah Ar-Rushideen in the political rise of Islam as a model for how to do it today, what race the Khalifah should be is considered to be something important apparently, and because Mo and the 4 Khulaafah were all Arab and were all chosen for the job, then in order to follow the sunnah and seerah of Mo's political practices properly, only a muslim male Arab may become Khalifah. That's their fucked up justification. They have a hadith to back it up, but can't remember which hadith or the wording of the hadith used any more.

It's racism but you'll be hard pressed to get a HT member to see it that way, 'cause the Ummah is supposed to follow the seerah.  Roll Eyes
