  • Buddhist vigilantes kill 9 Muslims in Myanmar violence
     OP - June 05, 2012, 01:45 AM

    Quote
Buddhist vigilantes in western Myanmar attacked a passenger bus and killed nine Muslims, police said on Monday, the deadliest communal violence in the tense region since a reformist government took power a year ago.

The bus was besieged near Taunggoke town in the western state of Rakhine on Sunday evening by a group who blamed some of its passengers for the murder of a Buddhist woman a week ago, said local residents and politicians. One of those killed was travelling in a separate car.

Rakhine is home to Myanmar's largest concentration of Muslims, but their presence is often resented by the Buddhist majority. The resentment is particularly sharp for Rohingya Muslims, whose roots date back to the 1820s when they were brought to the country as laborers by colonial power Britain.

Ko Kyaw Lay, a local Muslim and a human rights activist who belongs to an opposition party, said none of those killed were Rohingyas.

Police could not immediately confirm all of the details.

Not the first time this happens. Muslims are a hated minority in Burma. And at the end of the day, Buddhism is a religion.

    This was in 2002:
    Quote
“Earlier, in mid-October, religious unrest broke out in Kyauk-se, a town in central Burma, which is located not far away from Mandalay. The unrest spread to the city of Mandalay and then to the capital Rangoon. Burma’s junta confirmed that there had been sporadic clashes between people professing different faiths and slapped a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the areas where the religious unrest was rampant.

According to reports, the religious unrest broke out with a minor dispute, as someone threw a stone into a Buddhist monastery compound and it sparked the anger of the Buddhist monks, who mistakenly believed that the occupants of a nearby mosque were responsible for the alleged stone throw.

Subsequently, number of Muslims were attacked and injured in the religious riot that ensued, while others fearing for their lives sought shelter in the homes of the neighbouring Buddhist families.

According to local populace, many Buddhist monks in Mandalay rushed to Kyauk-se, caused tension thus sparking riots and arson, which left a dozen people dead, including a pregnant woman.”

Many religions are practised in Burma. Religious edifices and orders have been in existence for many years. Festivals can be held on a grand scale. The Christian and Muslim populations do, however, face religious persecution and it is hard, if not impossible, for non-Buddhists to join the army or get government jobs, the main route to success in the country.[187] Such persecution and targeting of civilians is particularly notable in Eastern Burma, where over 3000 villages have been destroyed in the past ten years.[188][189][190] More than 200,000 Rohingya Muslims have settled in Bangladesh, to escape persecution, over the past 20 years.[191]

Don't you wonder sometimes, that the information we are being fed on daily basis can be untrue entirely or exaggerated to the point where it loses all its truth? PHOTO: REUTERS

Social networking sites are abuzz with news about Muslims being killed in Burma. You can see the sporadic posting of pictures by different people with captions like ‘Muslims killing in Burma’, ‘Muslims slaughtered by Buddhists in Burma’ and so on.

Thus, I took on the mission to sort the truth out for myself once and for all and researched some pictures that I felt were dubious. Below are a few pictures and their original copies. You can evidently see the gross difference between them and how they are thrown out of context.

This was a picture shared on Facebook.

This picture was taken in 2010 after an earthquake in China and captures the efforts put in by the Tibetans to help rescue the victims. Now, Islamic political parties and some other elements are sharing this image as Muslim killing and their slaughter in Burma.

Another widely circulated  picture captioned “More then 1,000 people killed in Burma” is also fake.

    The meme thing:

Just so we all know what I am talking about a ‘meme’ is a unit of cultural transmission, a neologism devised by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book ‘The selfish gene.’ It rhymes with ‘mean’. The more specific area here briefly discussed is the ‘internet meme’ of which there is currently a proliferation.

Those of you who haunt the social media sites like Facebook and Twitter will probably be aware of a series of disturbing pictures getting posted that purport to show children killed in a massacre in Myanmar/Burma, or the charred corpses of what are said to be Muslims burned to death in another massacre. A picture of a boy jumping over a row of bodies said to have been killed in the Hula butchery in Syria is another and there are many more. They acquire meme status as they are posted and re-posted, almost invariably without any comment as to their accuracy or validity. Endlessly repeated and eventually entering the subconscious as an accepted truth. And therein lies the danger – because all is not what it may seem in meme-land.

    Quote
The picture of dead children floating in the water and said to be Muslim victims of a massacre in Burma/Myanmar is nothing of the sort. The picture has been taken from a blog post relating to Cyclone Nargis that did indeed hit Myanmar/Burma in 2008.

There are other pictures in the original source that are clearly of people who have died in a flood or been trapped and crushed in falling buildings. None of the dead display the kind of wounds you would expect if they had died by gunfire or a bladed weapon. At least 138,000 people died of the effects of this appalling natural event.

Rows of charred bodies feature in another picture said to be of Muslim men and women burned to death also in Myanmar/Burma – are not. Anybody who chooses to look at the figures in the background of the photo will see that their skin colour is very dark, and quite unlike that of the people of Myanmar/Burma.

This is because the incident in which all these people died happened in an African country. They were stealing petrol either from a wrecked tanker or a broken pipeline and the fuel ignited killing them horribly. Incidents such as this are not uncommon in Nigeria for instance and ten minutes with Mr Google will yield any amount of evidence to this effect – including the picture of the burned bodies.

None of this is to say that there are not atrocities being committed against Burmese Muslims, as there seems ample objective evidence that there is and that they have been persecuted for a very long time. Equally, the rest of the world seems to have turned a blind eye, concentrating on the Syrian conflagration as it does.  The point about the meme thing is that all too often we accept what we see and the description that comes with it unquestioningly, as if it really were an objective truth. We want to believe that what we are seeing is confirmation of that belief, and press the ‘share’ button so that others may receive the same wisdom, complete with its inaccuracies and deceptions.

Myanmar rejects Muslim crackdown concerns says news

    Quote
YANGON: Myanmar on Monday told a UN rights envoy it rejected accusations of abuse by security forces in the wake of communal unrest, after the United Nations raised fears of a crackdown on Muslims. In a press conference attended by UN Special Rapporteur Tomas Ojea Quintana, Myanmar’s foreign minister said the government had exercised “maximum restraint” in bringing an end to the violence in western Rakhine State.

“As such, Myanmar strongly rejects the accusations made by some quarters that abuses and excessive use of force were made by the authorities in dealing with the situation,” Wunna Maung Lwin told reporters. He said the country “totally rejects the attempts by some quarters to politicise and internationalise this situation as a religious issue”.

Quintana told reporters that on Tuesday he planned to visit Rakhine, where tens of thousands remain displaced by fighting that erupted between Buddhist and Muslim communities in early June. His trip comes just days after the United Nations warned that Muslim communities in Rakhine, particularly the Rohingya people, were being targeted by security forces.

    Quote
Earlier this month Amnesty International warned of “credible reports” of abuses — including rape and unlawful killings — by both Rakhine Buddhists and the security forces.

According to official figures, at least 77 people were killed in the unrest, including eight killed by security forces.

Of the more than 60,000 displaced, Myanmar officials said the vast majority — around 53,000 — were Muslims.

Ten aid organisation staff — six from the UN and four employees of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) — are among more than 800 people being held in relation to the unrest.

Both sides have accused each other over the attacks, which flared up following the rape and murder of a local Buddhist woman and subsequent revenge killing of 10 Muslims on June 3 by a mob of ethnic Rakhines.

Fears about the situation have spread across the Islamic world, with threats of violent reprisals against Myanmar from extremists from Pakistan to Indonesia.

Myanmar’s government considers the estimated 800,000 Rohingya in the country to be foreigners while many citizens see them as illegal immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh and view them with hostility. Earlier this month, President Thein Sein told the United Nations that refugee camps or deportation was the “solution” for the Rohingya, according to his official website.

    Rohingya Muslims massacre in Myanmar

    Quote
    Quote
There live approximately 800,000 Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, forming 4% of the Burma’s total population. Contrary to this official data of Myanmar Government, neutral sources claims that, the total Muslim population is more than double the government estimates. It is worth noting that, Burmese Muslims, commonly known as Rohingya Muslims, settled in this part of the world in 7th and 8th century from Arab. Nevertheless, they had the legal status of Burmese minority until 1970s. In 1982, through constitutional amendment, the Military Junta of the country declared them as non-Burmese. Thereafter, Military Junta, started gradual exploitation of this Muslim population to include; denial of their personal and religious freedom and fundamental human rights. Owing to these inhuman acts, thousands of Rohingya Muslims to fled to the neighbouring countries too. After 9/11, the persecution of Rohingya Muslims has increased many folds.

Though, traditionally, the Buddhist population and successive governments in Myanmar have been discriminatory towards this Muslim population. However, the current phase of massacre of Rhingya Muslims, started in June 2012, has been the worst. During this phase, Burmese Buddhists in collaboration with their security forces unleashed, unprecedented terrorism on this ill-fated Muslim population. Independent sources did not mention any particular reasons for the massacre, except that, on provocation of their Monks against Muslims. Independent sources say that, on June 3, 2012, hundred of Buddhists attacked and slaughtered eight Muslims returning to Rangoon in a bus after visiting a Masjid in the Arakan province. An eyewitness narrates that, after killing these Muslims, “the culprits were celebrating triumph spitting and tossing wine and alcohol on the dead bodies lying on the road.

After having seen some of the recent videos and pictures of these brutal killings of the Burmese Muslims, one wonders, as Burmese Buddhists are really human beings or wild creature and is this message of peace Lord Buddha gave them. They have crossed all limits of being merciless. During the current wave of terrorism, Buddhists have killed thousands of the Rhingya Muslims cold bloodedly. Some insiders claim that number of killings could be as much as 20,000. According to a report of London based human rights organization, Equal Rights Trust, “The military has (of late) become more actively involved in committing acts of violence and other abuses against the Rohingya including killings and mass arrests.”

......................... Myanmar security forces openly fire on Rohingya Muslims, committed rape and stood by to watch the Buddhists killing Muslims. According to this organization, Myanmar security forces have, “unleashed a campaign of violence and mass roundups against the Rohingya.” After the recent genocide of the Burmese Muslims, even United Nations considers that, Rohingya Muslims are, “one of the worlds’s most persecuted minorities.” UN resolution of 11 December 1946 declares, “genocide, whether committed in time of peace or war, is a crime under international law, and that all signatories of UN convention will cooperate to prevent genocide in order to liberate the mankind from such an odious scourge.”...................

    ...............................
    .

The need of the hour is that, should not UNO, hold emergency session of either UNSC or UNGA over this Muslim massacre. Had there been any other religious entity affected, there would have been outcry all over the globe with possible UN (US) humanitarian intervention by now. Since US, EU and all major global players have their interests in the natural resources of Myanmar, thus, no one would like to displease the current ruling Junta, which is all set to bring democratic reforms, desired by US and West. On its part, Myanmar rulers found this most convenient time to unleash reign of terror on the Muslims of Burma, as it knew that, the so-called western and U.S human rights organizations will be mum along with their Governments. Nevertheless, the blood of Muslims is on sale, thus, everyone can shed it. Amazingly, together with rest of the world, Muslim Ummah has become insensitive too, which is a real tragedy.

I'm slightly confused at this situation, it looks muddy from both sides of the story. It doesn't help that there's little to nothing about it on mainstream media and the only sources of information is from dubious links from Google or the huge outcry of 'that one month of the year pious' muslims on Facebook.

well it is good to read both sides of the story., history and what is happening now & why and and understand the problem using our own neural cells + common sense.

First thing is first., I blame the rascals of Islam to start with ..These osamas.. brothelhoods,  JAMAIT ULMA-E-ISLAM fuck heads of Indian subcontinent raise pockets of ROGUES in foreign lands such as Burma. This  became worse in early 90s to 2005.  Now the  other side will learn the same  techniques and tactics these criminals.  And and criminals of each side  start killing others yearly once or twice. Often victims of these tragedies  being  women/children and old folks..

See this to days news from Dawn

it says Two die in clashes between police, Muslims in Mumbai

    Quote
MUMBAI: Two people died and dozens were injured in clashes on Saturday in India’s financial capital between police and thousands of Muslims who were protesting the deaths of Muslims in rioting last month in the country’s northeast, police said.

Police fired guns into the air and used bamboo batons to disperse the protesters, who threw rocks and damaged about a dozen buses and police vans.

Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik said two protesters died from injuries sustained in the clashes, but had not been shot. Another 52 people, including 44 police officers, were injured in the clashes, he said.

He said the protesters also burned three TV broadcasting vans, complaining that media coverage of last month’s rioting in Assam state was biased against the Muslim victims.

The rioting between ethnic Bodos and Muslim settlers mainly involved land rights.

At least 53 people died and about 400,000 were forced to flee their homes and take shelter in government-run relief camps.

The rioting now is mostly under control. The Bodos and the Muslim settlers, who mostly came from the former East Pakistan before it became Bangladesh in 1971, have clashed repeatedly over the years but the recent violence is the worst since the mid-1990s.

I don't know what is going in that Indian city but these idiots of India  doing protest against that horrible situation of Muslims of Bangladesh migrated to Indoan northeastern corners + Burma     ( that was again by unexpected circumstances in 1971 war/2nd world war and as well as population movement across the porous borders of India/Bangladesh/Burma) ;   why would they go burn public property in that Mumbai? These idiots do such strikes/public property damages  across many cities of subcontinent including Pakistan.. Their issues is  not solving local problems of Muslims facing.. But these rogues  go and do strikes/orgies and  loot public properties in the name  Palestine, France, US of A, Russia,  Chechnya, Ugher Muslims of China and what not.. ... now you will see some bombs flying around those Indian cities and Indians blaming Pakistanis..

Anyways  the problem in Islam  is Mullah Baboons running around mosques with colored beards and misquandering as LEADERS Muslim people and enraging the crowd that are looking for jobs/food/education and what not..

Myanmar's Rohingya insurgency has links to Saudi, Pakistan: report   says news from Dawn

    Quote
A group of Rohingya Muslims that attacked Myanmar border guards in October is headed by people with links to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, the International Crisis Group (ICG) said on Thursday, citing members of the group.

    Quote
The coordinated attacks on Oct 9 killed nine policemen, and sparked a crackdown by security forces in the Muslim-majority north of Rakhine State in the country's northwest.

At least 86 people have been killed, according to state media, and the United Nations has estimated 27,000 members of the largely stateless Rohingya minority have fled across the border to Bangladesh.

Predominantly Buddhist Myanmar's government, led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, blamed Rohingyas supported by foreign militants for the Oct 9 attacks, but has issued scant further information about the assailants it called “terrorists”.

    Quote
A group calling itself Harakah al-Yakin claimed responsibility for the attacks in video statements and the Brussels-based ICG said it had interviewed four members of the group in Rakhine State and two outside Myanmar, as well as individuals in contact with members via messaging apps.

The Harakah al-Yakin, or Faith Movement, was formed after communal violence in 2012 in which more than 100 people were killed and about 140,000 displaced in Rakhine State, most of them Rohingya, the group said.

Rohingya who have fought in other conflicts, as well as Pakistanis or Afghans, gave clandestine training to villagers in northern Rakhine over two years ahead of the attacks, it said.

“It included weapons use, guerrilla tactics and, HaY members and trainees report, a particular focus on explosives and IEDs,” the group said, referring to improvised explosive devices.

It identified Harakah al-Yakin's leader, who has appeared prominently in a series of nine videos posted online, as Ata Ullah, born in Karachi, to a Rohingya migrant father before moving as a child to Makkah in Saudi Arabia.

“Though not confirmed, there are indications he went to Pakistan and possibly elsewhere, and that he received practical training in modern guerrilla warfare,” the group said, noting that Ata Ullah was one of 20 Rohingya from Saudi Arabia leading the group's operations in Rakhine State.

Separately, a committee of 20 senior Rohingya emigres oversees the group, which has its headquarters in Makkah, the ICG said.

Groups like the militant Islamic State (IS) and Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent have referred to the plight of the Rohingya in their material, and the battlefield experience of at least some of the Rohingya fighters implied links to international militants, the ICG said.

However, ICG said the group has notably not engaged in attacks on the civilian Buddhist population in Rakhine. And Harakah al-Yakin's statements to date indicate its main goals are to end the persecution of the Rohingya in Myanmar and secure the minority's citizenship status.

“It is possible, however, that its objectives could evolve, given its appeals to religious legitimacy and links to international jihadist groups, so it is essential that government efforts do not focus only or primarily on military approaches, but also address underlying community grievances and suffering,” the ICG said.

Top Muslim lawyer gunned down in Myanmar    says news

    Quote
YANGON: A prominent Muslim lawyer and member of Myanmar’s ruling party was shot dead along with a taxi driver outside Yangon’s international airport on Sunday, officials said.

Ko Ni, a legal adviser to Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party, was gunned down as he got into a taxi outside the arrivals lounge at about 5pm by an assassin who also killed the driver.

“According to our initial information, Ko Ni and the taxi driver were killed,” a security source at the airport said.

“An unknown man shot him in the head while he was hiring a taxi. He was later arrested,” the source added.

Zaw Htay, a spokesman for the president’s office, said Ko Ni had just returned from an official trip to Indonesia.

“He (Ko Ni) was shot while he was waiting for a car outside the airport. Ko Ni died on the spot,” he said.

There were no reports on possible motives behind the murder but the daylight slaying would do little to calm already heightened nerves within Myanmar’s Muslim community.

that is the news from the land of  land of the golden pagodas.. QUESTION IS WHO KILLED HIM??

Rohingya crisis: Myanmar jails Reuters reporters for 7 years for breaching state secrets law  says news

    Quote
Two Reuters journalists accused of breaching Myanmar's state secrets law during their reporting of a massacre of Rohingya Muslims were jailed for seven years on Monday, drawing outrage over the attack on media freedom and calls for their immediate release.

Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, who have been held in Yangon's Insein prison since their arrest in December, were charged with violating the Official Secrets Act, a draconian British colonial-era law which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years.
    .............................................................
The army-led “clearance operations” drove 700,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh, carrying with them widespread accounts of atrocities — rape, murder and arson — by Myanmar security forces.

The reporters denied the charges, insisting they were set up while exposing the extrajudicial killing of 10 Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine village of Inn Din in September last year.

They said they were arrested after being invited to dinner by police in Yangon who handed them documents. As they left the restaurant, the pair were detained for possessing classified material.

Judge Ye Lwin was unmoved by their testimony. “It is found that the culprits intended to harm the interests of the state. And so they have been found guilty under the state secrets act,” he told the packed Yangon court.

“They are sentenced to seven years in prison each.”

Suu Kyi's reputation as a defender of human rights has been eviscerated by her refusal to speak out against the military for its handling of the Rohingya crisis or in support of the jailed reporters................................

Suu Kyi dear Suu Kyi  .. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THE PAST .. I still have to see the details on the case but these Journalists are NOT working for state hence they can not have  "STATE SECRETS"  hence they can not be prosecuted for reveling "STATE SECRETS".,   But as an independent reporters if they are EXPOSING  STATE CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES"., then at best they  should be thrown out of your country ..
