Posted this I've before but I'm doing it again 'cause I think it's the ultimate chill-out song and one of my all-time favorites. I never get tired of hearing it.

I’d say this is ambient, but it’s certainly not relaxing. In fact, there’s a huge sense of foreboding to this:

This style is my favourite music category and then indie/folk indie and the classical sort.

I have this great CD by Debbie Danbrook that I use all the time for Tai Chi and mental warm-up before a martial arts session. The Spirit of Shakuhachi: Shakuhachi and Harmonics. It sounds fucking amazing on a good sound system. Here's one track off of it:

    Water Buddha
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x-wyp1vDGI

Helps to blanket out the noise of the city. Not in a distracting way either. I feel a real resonance and fullsomeness, with the sound being so organic it becomes part of the meditation experience. Some of the folksy, traditional stuff is a little too intricate and distracting for my peace of mind. That CD is clean, minimal and soothing. Though I do occasionally put a bit of Japanese classical on too:

    Sakura (Cherry Blossoms)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK51LblcEOw

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.
