  • Can you attend BBC Big Questions this Sunday 29/4/12?
     OP - April 23, 2012, 01:40 PM

Maryam has sent a request for an invitation by the BBC to the following program:

    ARE RELIGIONS GOOD FOR CHILDREN?

As you know, ‘The Big Questions’ is presented by Nicky Campbell and each week we ask 3 big questions which are always the big moral and ethical questions behind the headlines.  This year, we are producing a few special editions of the programme – in which we ask only one big question for debate for the entire hour.  This Sunday, the 29th April, we’ll be asking ARE RELIGIONS GOOD FOR CHILDREN?

We’re breaking the debate down into 3 sections:
    1.            Should children be brought up in a faith?
    2.            Should schools be allowed to teach a faith?
    3.            Is society at risk without faith?

I would be delighted to have someone represent the Council of Ex Muslims on the programme, perhaps a young person who feels passionately about young children being brought up in religious households or being taught in a faith school.

Please PM me if you're interested.

I feel a bit nervous about this but at the same time, I do want to attend.

Okay, I just gave them a call and I will be receiving a call tomorrow morning. Is everyone okay with me going there?

Yes, of course that would be great, thanks! I think Alom Shaha has also been asked if he would attend, but don't know if he can make it, besides it makes no difference, the more from cemb the better. Good luck!

Im not saying you guys shouldnt do it, but just dont do it as a spear of the moment thing. Think carefully about it. Talking about religion is one thing coming from a christian or atheist.. but you guys are exmuslims,  thats a whole other deal, remember there will be people watching this and its not to exaggerate and be a buzz kill but some might not be happy about you afterwards and you never know what reactions you might stir up, even if its just in your local comunity.

Yes, if it's going to cause problems for you and your family then I would advise you not to participate. Having said that things will never get easier unless more of us are willing to make a public stand, but this is of course a decision only the individual in question can make based on his/her circumstances.

Oh my god, look at the banshee in the blue hijab. Typical lying, deceitful, hysterical, shouting dawah-gandist bullshit artist as soon as Nicky Campbell makes the point about the Quran-sanctioned hate and stupidity that was taught at the King Fahd academy. Its like they've got a reflex and instinct to scream as soon as the truth is told and start gesticulating and shouting to try and create a fog of hysteria instead of facing up to arguments.

Well done by the way, mchawking  Afro

She was awful, but honesly the guy who put his hand up (I think Muslim) and said that 5 year olds are taught porn was worse, also that complete toolbag Christian woman at the end of the row with the glasses wearing black, forgot her name.

But anyway, well done Mchawking, you did exceptionally well, especially when faced against such loud mouths as the guys you were up against, good job, you should be proud.

mchawking, you did well, the gesticulating hysteric in the blue hijab was irked by your simple points and your cool, calm, quiet demeanour in contrast to her excitable scatter-gun blabbering was telling  Afro

I'd give you all a big hug and a lot of love for all the positive comments you've said in the threads I made asking about help. I could've done a lot better but when another opportunity arises, I will definitely raise the same eloquent points that were made on this forum.  thnkyu Narcissist Big hug
