    Hmmm interesting question... I'm going to say it's a combination of both Islam and the gender as well. I do not mean this in a sexist way at all, but men are known to be more aggressive than women, and I think Islam can facilitate this!

    Women have been known to behave badly under the name of Islam, as many honor-killing reports have shown where women have themselves participated in murdering the victim, as have women been involved in forcing arranged marriages, imprisoning young girls, circumcising young girls and treating their daughters-in-law so badly. Thing is it all seems to be geared towards support of a patriarchal and misogynistic point of view, where women's bad behavior under the name of Islam seems to be to enforce patriarchal power, abuse of the female gender etc...
