  • How many philosophy majors do we have here?
     OP - January 24, 2012, 02:31 AM

    I'm just curious because a lot of people here seem to be knowledgeable in various philosophical topics.

    If "philosophy major" means something like the Brit Phd - or top of the American acedemic tree - then can I loiter (as an autodidact with intent)?

    Because I could hear the strains of Kate Bush's "Them Heavy People" through imagination's echo chamber just as soon as I saw this thread;

    "They open doorways that I thought were shut for good
    Wonderful teachers ready to teach me.
    I must work on my mind, for now I realise,
    That ev'ryone of us has a heaven inside."

    Off topic or not - Would any philosopher major agree that was Kate Bush at her best? Smiley

    "And you, you are a fantasy, a view from where you'd like to think the world should see, just be true, and you will likely find a few building a vision, doing justice to our times."
    Roy Harper, addressing the doorstep evangelists, dawa-doers and other self-appointed representitives.

    Me. Cause I found it interesting and was gonna join the US Army full-time when I got out (was on scholarship from the Army and in their training/reserve program), so I figured my job prospects were secure regardless of my major. Then I got arrested and convicted over some stupid minor bullshit, got kicked out of the US Army program, lost the scholarship, got up to my ears in debt to finish the degree, then was left with an utterly useless degree that left me working the same kinds of unskilled to semiskilled jobs (kitchen work mostly) after I graduated that I worked while in school.

    Generally wouldn't recommend it. Would rather have my money and time back than the degree at this point.
